Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaquiya Jones.

Hi Jaquiya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My lash career started when a friend of mine recommended I take a certified lash course. The class was only one day, so I made the decision to take a chance. I went in with the intent of developing a new hobby. When I took the course, I felt in over my head. I had never done lashes before, but how hard could it be? It was apparent that I had underestimated the process because I was horrible. I could not get the lashes to stay on my mannequin head and continuously stabbed the doll in the eye. I left the class feeling so defeated. It took me three months to even pick up my tweezers again. When I decided to start practicing, I begged all my friends and family to do their lashes. I am so grateful for everyone who trusted me with their eyes and were willing to lay on my hard massage bed for hours at a time. With time I became more confident in my work. I started to charge and build my clientele by posting photos on social media and referrals. What started as a hobby to make some extra cash became so much bigger than me. I fell in love seeing the look on my client’s faces after finishing their lashes and them leaving feeling more beautiful than they came. I call it the “Sleeping Beauty Effect”. This motivated me to become more serious about my business and after three years of doing lashes as a side hustle, I started my company Lights Camera Lash. In February of 2019, I took a leap of faith and quit my waitressing job. I took Lights Camera Lash on full-time and now I am my own boss. I have a brand-new lash studio and am working on more products for my company. God is good.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been smooth so far, but with every great business, there are obstacles and challenges. The challenge is realizing that you must be ok with being your own cheerleader and motivator. Everyone is not going to see the big picture just yet, but that should not stop anyone from reaching for their dreams. I have learned that to be patient with myself and others. I do get frustrated and feel like I should be further in my lash career by now, but it is important to remember everyone’s journey is different and my business will bloom in its time. It is not going to be easy becoming the first billionaire in my family but without pressure there is no diamond.

I am a certified lash professional who specializes in lash care and growth. I use lash extensions to enhance your natural lashes in length and style. I am huge on aftercare and maintaining healthy lashes. A master of my craft, I am always learning the latest industry innovations. My goal is making every client feel more beautiful than before. What sets me apart from other lash professionals is that I am going to always be straight up with you about your natural lashes in order to keep them healthy. There may be looks that clients want that may be damaging. I am not going to risk placing heavy lashes on your eyes just for a look. Every customer is my walking billboard and I want to represent health and beauty.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a goofy kid and loved having a great time. Now that I am more mature not much has changed. When I was younger, I always got in trouble for either talking too much or playing around too much. I have always had a bright personality and love to see people smile. Being creative has always been a love of mine because I am not afraid to try new things. I love going out and spending time with friends and family. What I enjoy most is going to concerts and theme parks because I am thrill seeker and enjoy feeling alive. I am really going through withdrawals and am due for a live performance and some roller coasters. I cannot wait for everything to get back on track again.
