Today we’d like to introduce you to Allysa Kiele Remo.
Hi Allysa Kiele, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As an only child, I loved kids and always wanted a sibling growing up but never got one (sadly). Because of this, I knew I wanted to grow up and work with kids. I loved the medical field because I had stomach pains all throughout my childhood, so I’ve had my fair share of emergency room visits. I remember always being so scared of all the loud noises, how busy it was and of all the strangers in the ER. But it was always the nurses that helped keep me calm and helped me feel safe. Because of all these visits, I went into high school knowing I wanted to be a nurse! I realized that nursing was my calling because I would be spending my work shifts with a patient and making a difference in their lives, during such a scary and uncertain time for them. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to be able to take care of patients in the Intensive Care Unit. I’m truly blessed to be able to do what I do. Another thing I love to do is sing. I’ve been singing since I could talk and even took private singing lessons for about 11 years before I moved away from home (the Bay Area) to go to college at UC Irvine. Singing has always been a passion of mine and music itself has gotten me through so many happy and sad times in my life. I always wanted to audition for a singing competition but never got the chance to and that’s completely okay. In college, I met a friend who is an amazing pianist and contacted me to collaborate with him. We made a few covers on YouTube but he actually wrote an amazing single titled “Moon” that he asked me to sing for him. I said yes, we recorded and we released it on all streaming platforms.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road being a nurse. The kind of work that I do can be extremely hard, especially emotionally. Losing a patient is indescribable- so disheartening and saddening. It’s sometimes very, very hard to leave work at work and not “take work home” with me. But despite the challenges and how hard work can be, nursing is still very rewarding. Even though a patient may have passed away, I was able to hopefully make their passing more comfortable and be able to comfort their friends and families. With singing, I’ve definitely been struggling with it. Especially during this pandemic where work can feel like “too much” and that just getting through every day is already exhausting- I’ve been feeling way too tired to even think about pushing any new singing content. This year though, I’m trying to get back into rediscovering my love for singing, getting back into practicing and maybe virtually connecting with my other musically talented friends for some collaborations. I also still have a few songs in the studio I’m hoping will come out this year! So stay tuned for that!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a nurse on the Transplant Surgical Intensive Care Unit that specializes in Liver transplants. I’m most proud of becoming a registered nurse at 22 years old and being able to recognize my dream to help others and accomplish that by becoming an RN! I’m also proud of being able to have a single named “Moon”, writing by my good friend David, out on streaming platforms.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
