Art & Life with Bonnielynn Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonnielynn Perez.

Bonnielynn, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I came to Los Angeles via San Diego as a travel nurse originating from Florida with just one large suitcase and my nursing license, hoping to start my life anew. I started with taking photos by the beach as I walked as I was grieving the sudden death of my husband, this healing art helped me express in photo’s what words failed me.

I moved from the beach to be closer to my new position in a downtown Los Angeles hospital, and my creativity grew more each day, I started out taking my expensive cameras but soon learned for a female photographer out filming alone I could be viewed as an easy mark. I thought to use my camera phone and discovered I could move through the busy streets filming undetected as everyone seems to have a cellular phone in their hands. I went out every chance I could and filmed for hours, the real life, real people of downtown Los Angeles. Shortly after I started using graphic art on my pictures taking the photo down to mere outlines, then filling with color, abstract shapes and dimensions. It’s been an amazing journey of film art, creative abstract art from photography all taken from the streets of downtown Los Angeles.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?

Shortly after I started using graphic art on my pictures taking the photo down to mere outlines, then filling with color, abstract shapes and dimensions. I have also developed my own concept of ” Film Art in Abstract Movement” It’s been an amazing journey of film art, creative abstract art from photography all taken from the streets of downtown Los Angeles. I hope to detail the city of Los Angeles with photography and film art taken in action as the city moves forward each day with living. I titled my production; Street Runner Films, because I have been chased by those who thought I was taking their photograph.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
As an artist I define success as doing what you absolutely love as it nurtures your creativity, helps you remain grounded as an artist. Characteristics that I feel are essential for success an artist are comprehending that it takes time to build your platform, allowing your art to free flow into changing aspects of expression, finally surrounding yourself with positive creative people.
