REEF shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi REEF , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Jump out of bed, 2 espressos and immediately paint. Exercise my demons in jumping jack formation. Let that thing above guide and try not to let the state of the world ruin my mind.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Reef, born and raised in Los Angeles. I currently live and work in Paris France but still dip my toes in the west.
I’m a lifer to the arts and paint by my own approach: Improvised, free association and strongly opposed to any branding BUT still love the tradition of visual arts.
If anyone reads this or still reads, thank you!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
The world, media, institutions, adult programming with their ideologies don’t care about the youth. They have zero compassion. They don’t give young people a chance to color a little out the lines.
They did it to me, They’ve done it to generations as evident in society.
Adults don’t see it but guess who does?
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When I inverted their little MK ultra like mind control. Never pick up hitch hikers in Topanga Canyon.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The art industry is a racket. It’s all criminal. Theres no rules or regulations so it’s an opaque world. I like it. It’s a fantasy world.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Humans don’t change in nature. Unless we get cell phones sewn in and installed into our skulls,
