Cristina Florez & Monica Marquez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Cristina & Monica , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Monica: A normal day starts at 5 AM—gym first always. I walk my dog Peanut Butter (the real boss of the house), and get some boxing rounds in as I train for my upcoming fight. In between, I’m either on set for an acting gig, out with my husband, or shaking ass at Capicúa—the best Dominican party in LA, no debate.
Cristina: I’m more of a “wake up when my spirit says so” type. My day usually includes helping women feel confident in their skin, dropping a rap verse or two, and shaking ass either at the gym or in dance class. Then I’ll spend time with one of my three boyfriends. After this article comes out, it’ll probably be two.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Cristina & Monica: We’re the creators and producers of Malas Sicarias, a comedy-action pilot born out of our love for Latin culture, female friendship, and a little chaos. Think Charlie’s Angels meets Insecure, with hoop earrings, trap beats, and emotional intelligence.
At its core, Malas Sicarias is about two women rewriting the “bad girl” narrative. We wanted to show Latina power in a way that’s funny, fearless, and layered, where women can be soft and savage, sensual and strategic, spiritual and still ready to throw hands if necessary.
What makes us unique is how real this story feels. We’re not writing from the outside looking in, we live this. We pull from our real lives as artists, dancers, fighters, and women navigating Los Angeles with big dreams and bigger personalities.
Right now, we’re focused on bringing the pilot to life, building our audience through short-form content, and finding partners who believe in the vision: women taking up space, having fun, and owning their main character energy in every frame.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Cristina: My first memory of feeling powerful was in high school, when I choreographed my first successful dance piece, a high-energy, athletic Missy Elliott hip-hop number. Even though I wasn’t in the advanced dance level, I casted the advanced girls in my piece and convinced the school’s drumline to come up the aisles mid-performance. When the beat dropped and the audience erupted, I felt this electric mix of pride and purpose. I knew I had created something unforgettable, not just a dance, but an experience. In that moment, I realized I wasn’t just a dancer. I was a leader, a performer, an athlete, and a visionary.
That feeling of bringing people together through rhythm, story, and emotion has stayed with me ever since. It’s what drives everything I do now, from my work helping women reconnect with their confidence and sensuality through my business Conquer Your Sexy, to co-creating Malas Sicarias. I still chase that same spark of impact, that moment where art meets power and you feel completely alive in your body.
Monica: My first real taste of power came the day I stepped into a boxing ring. I was still new, nervous, and unsure when my coach paired me with a girl who looked way more experienced. But once that bell rang, instinct took over. I held my ground, and something clicked: I was stronger than I thought. That feeling of confidence and control lit something in me. Years later, I’m paying it forward, coaching women in L.A. to feel that same rush of power and self-belief through boxing with Mija Fitness & Sweet Science.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, no. There was never even a flinch of looking back. Even when we had no idea where we’d find the locations, the funds, the actors, or the crew, giving up just wasn’t an option. We’ve always had this unshakable belief that we’d figure it out somehow, and that’s exactly what kept Malas Sicarias alive.
That same energy is what Foxy and Roxy embody in the series, they don’t wait for perfect conditions, they make it happen. They always find a way, and they always have each other’s backs. That’s the spirit that built this project, and it’s the spirit that keeps it moving.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Our closest friends would probably say that showing up matters most to us. No matter what’s going on, good day, bad day, or full-on chaos, we show up for each other. For the wins, the heartbreaks, the late-night edits, and the big moments that remind us why we started this in the first place. Even if we’re not always on the same page, we’re always in the same book.
We also love to laugh and have a good time, that’s non-negotiable! Whether it’s on set, in class, or just hanging out, we make sure that anyone who’s part of our projects feels taken care of, valued, and seen. If you’re rolling with us, you’re family, and we take that seriously… even if we’re laughing half the time.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
We both feel like we are doing what we love to do, what we were destined to do and serving where we can bring the most impact and joy. Through film, dance, music and fitness we bring the world our most effortless talents.
