AMIR IMANKHAN’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

AMIR IMANKHAN shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi AMIR, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Many people think that what we do in our shop is just dry cleaning. However, our work goes far beyond that. Leather cleaning is an art that requires skill, precision, and experience.

We don’t only clean,we also perform color matching using airbrush techniques to restore items to their original appearance. Spot removal is not simply a matter of cleaning; it takes years of experience to remove stains properly, often without the use of heavy equipment.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Amir Imankhan. I established L.A. Leather Cleaners in 1987, and since then, the business has grown stronger every year. Leather cleaning is a specialized and rare process, and only a few companies in Southern California offer this service.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
In my early years and throughout my teenage life, I was a shy person and believed that I was not good enough to achieve big things. However, through the feedback and encouragement of others, I realized that I was not powerless at all. Instead, I discovered that I am strong, creative, and capable.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time when I seriously considered giving up. I was struggling with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on my business and mental well-being. However, these experiences ultimately strengthened my resilience and determination, motivating me to continue pursuing my goals.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is being genuine and honest, which most people can sense. What I want for myself, I also want for others.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I almost certain that if I retired, my customer would miss the level of care I put into my services.
