Today we’d like to introduce you to Jules East
Hi Jules, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Chinese immigrant who moved to the United States about two decades ago. Finding nothing I enjoy watching on TV or in theaters, I decided to start making my own movies. For now, I’m only creating small-budget independent films, but I have many stories I’d like to bring to life in the future!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not a smooth road! Filmmaking is an ever-changing industry where executives, people, and talents are constantly evolving, and technologies are advancing rapidly every day. It remains a continuous learning journey for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Fortunately, I have made two feature films so far, and both were acquired. The first one, River of Ghosts, was released on January 9, 2024, and my second feature film, Alone in Venice, is scheduled for release early next year on January 7, 2025. Alone in Venice was nominated for Best Original Film Score in the Burbank International Film Festival 2024, I am the person who composed 90% of the music in Alone in Venice. My actor, Apollo, who made his acting debut, won Best Actor for Alone in Venice at the Golden State Film Festival 2024.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I brought two books with me when I came to America, and I still find them useful and practical today. They are Thick Face, Black Heart and Sun Tzu’s Art of War. Apart from these, I read the Bhagavad Gita as if it were my Bible.
