Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Moore
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into fashion photography started with a bit of humor and surprise. Growing up, my sister, Airika, and her best friend, Wishes, would always ask me to take photos of them on a phone. One day, while we were outside, Wishes asked me to snap a picture of her on her bike. Jokingly, I said, ‘I’m gonna be a photographer one day,’ and to my surprise, she replied, ‘I actually have a camera you could use.’ I was only 14, but I started shooting with her every day to improve, and she became my go-to model. Wishes even helped me set up my first Instagram account and logo. After using her camera for about a year, I decided to invest in my own gear, which felt like a big milestone for me.
From there, I started connecting with models on Instagram, and that’s how I met Sasha. My first-ever professional shoot with her took place at Sunset Beach, and those photos came out great—they’re still on my Instagram today as a reminder of where I started. A few months later, I met two new creatives, a photographer-model named Rielle and a stylist named Joanie, and we teamed up for a concept I called ‘Woman on Edge.’ We shot at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and those images became my first magazine feature. It was a small publication, but it was a huge step for me, boosting my confidence and inspiring me to work harder on my retouching and overall style.
By 15, I was reaching out to model agencies and managed to connect with Scout Modeling Agency. I met Sarah, the New Faces agent, and went in with a printed portfolio to show what I could offer. Over the next year, I had the chance to work with amazing talent from the agency. When I turned 16, they trusted me enough to use their office as a studio space and even handed me the keys! I set up shoots there, experimenting with bold makeup and exaggerated styles. While it was a great experience, I realized that wasn’t quite my style, and I kept exploring until I found my own voice in fashion photography.
One of the agents from Scout, Sydney, later joined Next Models Management, and she connected me with Jerrold, a New Faces agent there. He introduced me to an incredible model named Jade, and together we worked on a concept called ‘Metallic Melanin.’ I wanted the shoot to feel futuristic, elegant, and a little out-of-this-world, so we went all out with metallics—from the shoes to the jewelry. Around this time, I started getting opportunities to collaborate with emerging brands, including United Nude, Bombshell Sportswear, Skims, Rebirth Athletics, IconSwim, Kikinis.Ko, and TP Denim. These collaborations helped me refine my style and reach a wider audience. I sent the ‘Metallic Melanin’ photos to various magazines, including Elle and Harper’s Bazaar. Harper’s Bazaar reached out, and they published my work on their Instagram, which was a massive breakthrough for me and a moment that felt like a turning point in my career.
Aside from fashion photography, I’ve also been contracted with my school since I was 17 to take photos for events and projects, which has given me even more experience and opportunities to expand my skills. Now that I’m 18, I’ve gained a lot of hands-on experience, and I feel ready to conquer new challenges and keep learning.
Looking forward, my dream is to make a name for myself in the fashion industry, working with major brands like Versace, Gucci, and Prada, and getting published in top magazines like Elle and Vogue. I plan to keep pushing myself creatively and professionally. My next step is to attend SCAD, where I’m excited to learn from some of the best in the industry and gain a solid foundation in both business and photography. This journey has been wild, but every step has brought me closer to where I want to be.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My career has had its smooth moments, but there have also been some ups and downs. At times, people have taken advantage of my age or treated me more like a kid than a professional.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a fashion photographer, I specialize in creating dynamic, visually compelling images that highlight the unique personality of my subjects and the fashion they wear. I’m known for blending creativity with a strong narrative, capturing not just the clothes but the emotions and stories behind them. My style often focuses on subtle tones and intricate details, allowing me to create images that resonate with viewers and stand out in a crowded industry.
What I’m most proud of is my journey from using a friend’s camera in the early days to being published in respected magazines like Harper’s Bazaar. It’s a testament to my dedication and growth in this field. Additionally, I take pride in the relationships I’ve built with models, stylists, and other creatives, as collaboration is a significant part of my process.
What sets me apart from others is my commitment to authenticity. I strive to ensure that every shoot reflects the individuality of the model and the story we want to tell. I’m also passionate about pushing boundaries and exploring new styles and techniques, which allows me to evolve my work and keep things fresh continually.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I believe that success is never a solo journey, and I owe so much to the incredible people who have supported me along the way. My sister, Airika, and her best friend, Wishes, played a significant role in the beginning of my photography journey, encouraging me to explore my creativity and providing the motivation I needed to pursue my passion.
I’ve been fortunate to have unwavering support from my family and friends, especially my parents, who have always believed in my talent and helped me chase my dreams. Their encouragement has been valuable.
I also want to acknowledge the brands and businesses that have collaborated with me, trusting my vision and allowing me to expand my portfolio. Their belief in my work has been crucial to my growth.
I’ve had wonderful mentors, like Sarah from Scout Modeling Agency, who have guided me through the industry and helped me navigate professional relationships. Collaborating with talented photographers and stylists, such as Rielle and Joanie, has also inspired me and contributed to my development.
While I wish I could name everyone who has played a part in my journey, I’m incredibly grateful for the collective support and encouragement from all of them. Their belief in my abilities has been instrumental in shaping my career as a photographer.
