Daily Inspiration: Meet Elijah Demetri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Demetri

Hi Elijah , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Elijah, I am an Artist,Singer, Songwriter. Music and performance have always been a part of my life as I started engaging with the performing arts at a very early age. I worked locally as an entertainer in my hometown and throughout the Chicago area. In 2011 I relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a recording artist & entertainer and have been stationed here since. I have been releasing music independently since 2012, and through that I have learned so much about myself and the creative process in general. I released my first self recorded and produced album titled “Happy Place” in 2021 (now streaming on all platforms). I am also currently working on a new project set to release in 2025.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To say it has been a smooth road would be a lie. Many creatives know that the road to creative expression sometimes calls for the need to take back roads and side streets. One of the biggest struggles especially for independent artist is funding and getting budgets together for projects. That is one of the main hurdles of being an artist in general but is definitely an obstacle that a lot of independent artist face.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started my journey as a vocalist. I grew up as a trained singer in classical, jazz, and contemporary music. I was in choirs as well as competitive showchoirs (Glee) for many years; so for me the vocals and lyrics are the main focus. I began working with different producers and engineers once moving to LA while also juggling college as a double major in Musical Theater and Performing arts. I would say I am most know for big vocals, ethereal sonics, and writing songs that are meant to uplift and inspire the listener. I believe what sets me apart from other artist is my wide and diverse range of influences (musical and otherwise) as well as my love for vocal production and storytelling. A song can be very well written and produced but the ability to tell a story is what makes listeners feel connected to music.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important to lesson I’ve learned so far is; I have to be the most committed person in the room when it comes to my music and creative vision. I’ve learned to not expect everyone to “get it” right away when it comes to a song or a music video treatment and that’s totally okay!

I have also learned the importance of being a 100 percent artist; Which means writing, recording, producing (vocally or sonically) to some capacity on all my projects. Im not the type of artist that likes to have songs, lyrics and ideas fed to me. It’s important to have somewhat of a grasp on all aspects of the craft to make informed and effective choices in the work. This also sets a precedent when engaging with other creative minds and personalities .

The main lesson I have learned is patience. The music industry requires one to know how to run the marathon all the while knowing that the finish line my be in fact a myth.
