Today we’d like to introduce you to Brigitta Dau
Hi Brigitta, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I believe that having the courage to journey our own paths of personal growth is how we make the world a better place. I also know how desperate and lonely it feels when we are lost in the depths of this process.
“Change is Inevitable, Growth is a Choice”. Having support with this decision is where I come in.
A bit more about me:
Originally born in Canada, I began my young working life as a professional actress, starring in the popular Canadian series, “Northwood”, and co-starring in many other Vancouver-based productions at the time. In my early 20’s I made the decision to move to Los Angeles, California, where the acting opportunities were more abundant, and continued my work in the film/TV industry for over a decade.
While I loved what I did, I also found a deep appreciation for Pilates, which filled a need for contribution and fed my appetite for learning. Eventually, I left the acting world to become a certified Pilates instructor, and went on to work in various boutique studios, physical therapist’s offices, local high-end gyms, and ultimately opened my own studio.
During this time, I quickly realized I was offering more in my training sessions than just the benefits of Pilates. A little over ten years ago, I worked towards becoming a certified Life Coach to better serve those people needing a more specific approach to healing. I love working with people to deconstruct their self-sabotage, create empowering habits, and manifest their true desires.
Adding Reiki to the mix was the obvious next step for me. Having worked with hundreds of people over the years, I’ve watched people make leaps and bounds in terms of personal growth, only to be thwarted by lingering negative energies. Reiki Energy Healing addresses the much needed and usually neglected necessity of healthy energetic hygiene. This is why Reiki is included with all of my offerings.
How can I talk about myself and not mention creative expression aka crafting? I am a lover of crafting and have crafted since childhood. I teach various crafting classes as well as “Fusion” crafting classes. These workshops include Reiki, personal growth with a big emphasis on the importance of Play. We grown-ups don’t play enough and when we get our hands dirty with crafting, time stops and we are once again in connection to our creative souls.
No two paths of personal growth are the same which is why I offer many ways to work with me. Together, we’ll figure out what serves you on your path so that you can start living the life you desire.
Five years ago, I wrote a book. “Crafting a Better Life – Creative Approaches to Personal Growth”. (Available at Amazon).
And last year, I also opened an Etsy shop (YarnPigCrafts) where I sell various whimsical hand knit items, Reiki infused candles, and more. My husband, of 25 years, has been an unwavering support with all of my endeavors. And our pooch, Stanley, reminds us on a daily basis that life is to be cherished, enjoyed, and lived with verve!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a small business owner requires resilience.
Covid was a huge game changer for so many of us. Because of the pandemic, I lost almost 100% of my pilates business. That was devastating. Fortunately, I had been coaching online (using Zoom) for years so that aspect of my business was left in tact. But it was truly heartbreaking to lose the communities I had worked so hard to build.
Strangely enough, it was through this loss and isolation, I realized that a natural talent of mine was “creating communities”. It seems to be a necessary ingredient to everything I do.
I have monthly Reiki classes that have turned into communities of women who are now going into their third year of connection. I have a remote Reiki group that has remained committed to weekly meditation for over two years. I have ongoing in-person crafting classes with people returning to add more intentions to their Vision Boards and Manifestation Jars. (two of my most popular classes.).
I still remember when I was struggling years ago. I guess you could say I was having an identity crisis. I hadn’t yet discovered coaching and I was feeling like my life lacked purpose. I felt utterly lost and alone. This was over a decade ago yet I remember it like it was yesterday.
It was finding the right life coach who then helped light my pathway out of that time. I also found meaningful connections that supported me in creating this life I now love. So I guess it makes sense that connection and community are a part of what I offer my clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Brigitta Dau: Mind. Body, Soul Coaching?
I offer 1-1 coaching, Remote Reiki sessions, and multiple group classes both in person and on-line.
And my favorite? Teaching classes that fuse Reiki Energy with Creative Expression is my JAM!
I’ve had the privilege of leading in-person Creativity/Reiki fusion classes for almost three years now. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness people breaking free from limiting beliefs and dense energies while playing and connecting through arts and crafts.
I have found multiple benefits when combining combining Reiki with creativity. I have found participants find greater clarity in their life’s purpose, authentic desires, and unique artistic expression while quieting their anxiety and inner critic.
We cannot talk about the making of art without acknowledging the non-beneficial energies of our inner critic. Nothing can turn up the volume of our self doubt more than a blank canvas. And if you are a recovering perfectionist, watch out. Your inner critic might sound like they have hold of a mega phone!
Reiki softens all of the the sharp edges of those self defeating thoughts. It opens up a clear channel of expression. It literally creates a safe, nurturing space for people to make direct contact with their creative selves.
I start all of my workshops with a group discussion about Reiki, how effective Reiki can be in group settings, and what to expect when receiving the transmission.
From there, we settle in and I send Reiki to the group.
When the transmission is complete, we Play! I like to be as inclusive as possible when it comes to creating with our hands and so I keep the crafting project to simple things like art collage and vision boards. Both of those projects involve multimedia (clippings from magazines), stickers, scissors and glue. “Cutting and pasting” is something we can all do and may feel less daunting to those of us newer to crafting.
And while we are busy with our hands, our conversations always turn to our insights. Participants ask about dreams, visions, symbols, the healing properties of colors. They also ask for support with issues with family members, shadow work, and relationship challenges.
Our creative time becomes it’s own vehicle for deeper healing with group support.
We end with our very own physical creations with what we experienced together in this workshop.
Fusing the fun of crafting with the healing energy of Reiki has become my favorite thing to do.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Science is proving what us crafters have known for years. Making things with your hands accelerates our ability to heal. (To quote: A 2022 study published in the Journal of Neuropsychiatry found that “crafting could reduce your chances of developing mild cognitive impairment by 30%-50%”.)
I think we are going to see more value placed on PLAY and we will honor our creativity more openly.
I believe that our true liberation lies in healing our deepest wounds. Combining artistic expression with energy healing is the gentlest and most effective way to create lasting change.
