Community Highlights: Meet Kyle Burgess of Uneeqability

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Burgess

Hi Kyle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I moved to Los Angeles over a decade ago at just 19, chasing a dream in entertainment. Surrounded by incredible talent without proper platforms, I created Uneeqability—a blog and YouTube channel that unexpectedly became my gateway into music and TV.

My first big break came working with Simon Cowell on The X Factor, where we discovered acts like Fifth Harmony. It was an invaluable crash course in TV development and the entertainment industry.

From there, I co-founded a management company with Tim Byrne, Simon Cowell’s long-time creative director. We worked with Island Records to build the boy band Citizen Four and signed various artists, producers, and songwriters. However, COVID-19 brought unexpected challenges.

As the management company closed, I pivoted to TV/Content Development at Studio71, collaborating with Meta, Amazon Music, and Amazon Alexa on branded content campaigns. This led to an opportunity at Hello Pictures, where I developed a music competition series that caught Netflix’s attention.

Currently, I’m heading up unscripted development at National Lampoon, but my entrepreneurial spirit never faded. I’ve relaunched Uneeqability with a fresh perspective—creating a game that helps people explore, expose, and discover their passions.

Throughout this journey, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about achieving goals; it’s about embracing the process. While some projects didn’t unfold as expected, each experience has shaped my path and fueled my passion for helping others unlock their unique potential.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been far from smooth, but I’ve come to appreciate every bump and detour along the way. Each challenge has been a crucial part of my growth, both personally and professionally.

One of the biggest struggles is the constant uncertainty in the entertainment industry. Projects I poured my heart into sometimes fell through at the last minute, and there were periods where I questioned if I was on the right path.

The closure of our management company during COVID-19 was particularly tough, forcing me to pivot quickly and reassess my goals. I truly wanted to break an artist but in hindsight I realized that I actually got to live out my dream and that vision inside my head even though our artists weren’t charting on Billboard.

Another significant challenge has been balancing my entrepreneurial spirit with the demands of a corporate career. There’s always been a part of me that wants to build something of my own, even as I’ve climbed the ladder in established companies. Finding the time and energy to nurture my own projects while giving my all to my day job has been a constant juggling act.

Self-doubt has also been a recurring obstacle. In an industry filled with talented individuals, it’s easy to fall into the trap of imposter syndrome. There were times when I questioned whether I had what it takes to succeed, especially when faced with setbacks.

Financial instability, particularly in the early years, was another significant challenge. Living in Los Angeles on an entry-level salary while trying to network and build a career was often stressful and required a lot of sacrifices.

Lastly, maintaining work-life balance in an industry known for its demanding schedules has been an ongoing struggle. There are periods where I’m so focused on my career that other aspects of my life took a backseat.

However, I’ve come to see these struggles as invaluable lessons. They’ve taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying true to my passions.

Each obstacle has ultimately led me back to the core of what I believe in – the power of embracing one’s unique qualities and pursuing one’s dreams relentlessly.

This perspective has been instrumental in re-launching Uneeqability again.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Uneeqability is more than just a brand – it’s a movement dedicated to empowering individuals to embrace their unique qualities and pursue their passions fearlessly. At its core, Uneeqability is about recognizing that what makes you different is what makes you extraordinary.

Our flagship offering is the Uneeqability Game, a innovative puzzle game designed to foster self-discovery and meaningful connections. This game isn’t just about entertainment; it’s a powerful tool for personal growth, pushing players to reflect on their dreams, confront their fears, and recognize their potential.

What sets Uneeqability apart is our holistic approach to personal development. We’re not just selling a product; we’re cultivating a mindset. Our brand extends beyond the game to encompass a lifestyle that celebrates individuality and encourages continuous growth.

I’m particularly proud of how Uneeqability has evolved from the early days of what would be considered a music blog to now something tangible, with the same message, that you can hold in your hand. Even though it has not been released publicly yet, the game has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with players reporting profound insights and renewed motivation after playing.

Everyone has the potential to lead an extraordinary life. Our mission is to help you uncover that potential, embrace it fully, and use it to create a life that truly reflects who you are.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Discipline is undoubtedly the cornerstone of any achievements I’ve had. It’s the driving force that transforms ideas into reality and dreams into achievements. In my experience, discipline is what separates those who succeed from those who merely aspire.

Discipline means showing up every day, even when motivation is low. It’s about setting goals and consistently working towards them, regardless of obstacles or distractions. In the entertainment industry, where rejection is common and success often feels elusive, discipline has been my anchor.
