Rising Stars: Meet Veronica Kevyn of Westchester, LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Kevyn

Hi Veronica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started about three years ago when we took a trip to Lake Tahoe and shared our dreams and goals. We talked about opening a business that would give back to the community with an identity tied to our roots, and that would also give us the financial freedom to pursue our dreams together. We both share a love for coffee like many people do, but we wanted to bring our culture and communities together. Veronica was born in Mexico and Kevyn was born in El Salvador, but we both grew up in California. We found a local coffee roaster whose coffee is cultivated and harvested in El Salvador on volcanic soil, giving it a unique flavor and taste. With her background in culinary arts, Veronica created our current menu inspired by Latino culture, using flavors such as Lechera White Mocha and Brown Sugar Canelita.

The name Tazitas was inspired by a tradition where in Latino culture people like to share evenings together while enjoying Una Tazita de Cafe ( a small cup of coffee). So our goal is to share a Tazita with the entire LA community and inspire others to pursue their dreams and passions.

We are currently doing small pop ups, private events, local festivals, and during the weekends we are located at Cinco a local Oaxacan inspired restaurant.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. It has been full of challenges and struggles, but we have always believed in each other and the potential that Tazitas has. We also have a long-distance relationship. Kevyn lives in San Francisco, and Veronica lives in LA, limiting our time and making it more difficult to run our first business together. Tazitas is established in LA, so Veronica has had to do most of the physical work setting up the coffee cart in different places like Long Beach, Palos Verdes, and Playa del Rey. Even though it has not been an easy journey, it has been a rewarding one with lots of new learning opportunities.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kevyn has worked for T-Mobile for over 10 years and has been an assistant manager for over 8 years. My experience working at multiple stores has given me the chance to learn many different aspects of running a business and working with many different people. I am proud of having had the chance to work in 1 of 6 biggest stores in the country and I believe what sets me apart is my ability to solve problems and connect with people.

Veronica has been privileged to have been able to work with some of the most amazing chefs from all over the world. Working unforgettable thrilling festivals to refined & elegant private dining experiences. Picking up new traits and new ideas. Allowing me to grow into the person I am today. I take pride in being able to create something beautiful and delicious for others.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What we like most about LA is the beaches, the weather, the food, and that it has unlimited amount of opportunities. That there is a big and strong Latino community that works hard to live and achieve their Sueño Americano.

What we like the least is the traffic and the cost of rent. It is very difficult to find even single bedroom apartments at affordable rates.
