Meet Tre Romero of Long Beach, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tre Romero

Hi Tre, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In my childhood, I was predominantly raised by my maternal & paternal grandparents, where I was always around a sewing machine. That fascinating device didn’t come into play until I reached high school, where I did small alterations to my clothes or bags.

Years later I would attend school for fashion as I designed, created, & wore my own clothes (which I still do to this day), but someone referred me to intern for a designer/tailor in DTLA, pushing me to decide between the two. In 2016, I chose the internship (which turned into a job), where I gained firsthand experience with working on-set at productions, tailoring for actors & artists, and managing a boutique/sewing studio over the course of over 6 years.

During 2021, my lifelong obsession with men’s underwear drove me to start my own brand of underwear & swimwear, now that I had the skills to make my own products. Since then, i’ve gradually built my identity around empowering men to be bold, courageous, self-compassionate, and to be their best selves.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is never a smooth road, and if it is, you’re deluded, coddled, or something wicked comes your way!

There’s always been challenges to overcome, such as:
-constant self-doubt
-pressure to “do better”
-figuring out “what you did wrong”

As you can see, these are internal struggles, which are subjective, but completely within my control. Of course there are external factors, but I like to focus on what I can tackle myself. I don’t let the outside world stop me from fulfilling my life purpose.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Although I primarily am a designer where I envision & create full looks, what i’m known for best is not only designing men’s thongs, but modeling them & actually wearing my creations. Since starting this path, I knew it was imperative that I be the face of my own brand, as many bands don’t have someone clearly on the forefront of their own line.

I’m most proud of the fact I made myself the face of my brand, because people need someone to identify with as well as knowing who started it all. There are a lot of successful brands that don’t show the creator, but that’s not the experience I wanted my friends (I don’t like to call them customers or fans), to have.

Besides the fact that i’m not afraid to show who I am & what I do, what sets me apart is I choose vibrant prints, shoot locally, make my products myself (for now), I communicate openly with everyone, and i’m genuinely interested in my following & their lust for life.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Within the hyper-niche category of men’s thongs, I do see a potential exponential growth within the the next 5-10 years. HOW exactly? I’m not sure, but I do expect a rise. More & more men are embracing their bodies, so it’s only natural to expect the demand to increase.
Some can argue that the men’s underwear/swimwear market has drastically grew since the past 10 years, but I still think we have a very long way to go!
