Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Edwall
Hi Matt, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up playing in bands and touring and running around with my buds. Through that process, I learned about management and organization of people, finances, and just how to keep shit together. After bands stopped, and many failed business attempts, it clicked that bookkeeping is sort of this amalgamation of all these soft skills I had picked up along the way.
I enrolled in training to learn how to actually bookkeep, use QuickBooks, and configure all the background tech. Just dove in and haven’t come up for air. I love it.
My business partner and I have known each other all our lives, and he’s an absolute stud. Business man though and through, so partnering with him filled in all the gaps that were lacking on my end. I met the queen of MILO Business Consulting, Erin, in a training course and she immediately felt like the sister that was way smarter and better than me at everything, but I’d never tell her :). And Jamison is our lead, the sniper. Eyes on everything, and the books worst nightmare.
Over the last 3 years, we’ve made the most boring bookkeeping, the most fun. We have the best team, the best Christmas parties, and wonderful clients. It rules!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not. There’s always mole hills and mountains. But, the best part of bookkeeping is that there is always an answer. It’s totally objective. So if something gets screwed up, lost in the sauce, it’s a matter of retracing steps and finding the problem. That’s what SOP’s and clear lines of communication is for, and also giving the team space to operate and not micro manage. Who wants that?
We’re still babies. MILO is only 3 years old, but everyone has so many years of experience that the ship runs smooth. Keeping a healthy perspective while we grow is key. Open communication within the team is crucial. And most importantly, trust and honesty inside our ecosystem will guarantee we can be successful well into the future. Nobody wants their business to fail and be a statistic found in a college book.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
MILO Business Consulting is a remote bookkeeping company. We work with small businesses and help them organize their business’ finances. From organization, to reporting, to payroll, and tax prep, we’ve got you!
Most proud of the fact that MILO sets out to deliver a very professional bookkeeping service, at a very low price point. Our ethics stem from the “d.i.y.” world, but everybody knows that business takes a team. And we pride ourselves with aligning with hardworking people trying to propel and grow their future, at a reasonable price point and worry free experience. We work very closely with our clients and want to make sure that we’re the right fit for them, and vice versa. Successful growth and organization is the mission.
Bookkeeping sucks, and we’re wildly aware of that. So, pass off the books and do what you do best…run your business 🙂
What makes you happy?
Helping people, seeing my friends, making music, traveling, free time, meditation, camping.
What really stokes me out is people starting the business they’ve always wanted to. Or creating their own paycheck and challenging themselves within this economic landscape. I love hearing about it, meeting the people that do it, and learning a little bit more about myself through their stories and journey. That’s what it’s all about. Cheers
