Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Acosta
Hi Stephanie , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been an integral part of my life. From a young age, I found my passion in playing the piano, violin, singing, and anything related to music. This passion drove me to pursue a career as a well-rounded musician, with a dream to create and perform songs that connect with people the way they’ve always moved me. My ultimate goal is to become a top female producer, artist, and singer-songwriter, contributing both behind the scenes and on stage.
My professional journey took a significant leap in 2018 when I was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston—one of the dreams I held as a young girl from a small town in Venezuela. At Berklee, I explored the many dimensions of music, from singing and performing to producing and engineering. I had the privilege of collaborating with renowned artists like Tony Succar, Usher, Daymé Arocena, Nicolle Horbath and Sebastián Yatra. Receiving the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation tuition assistant scholarship opened even more doors for me, including the chance to perform with artists like Nicky Jam and Sebastián Yatra, and the unforgettable experience of presenting awards at the 2022 Latin Grammys.
After graduating, I relocated to Miami, where I’ve continued to build my career as a music producer, singer-songwriter, and engineer. I’ve had the opportunity to work at Alacran Studios, collaborating on projects with artists like Rawayana, Danny Ocean, and Tony Succar. Along the way, I’ve been recognized with honors such as the NAMM Foundation’s President’s Innovation Award and had the chance to be mentored by some of my biggest inspirations, including Simone Torres and Tony Succar, through the Latin Recording Academy’s programs.
Today, my focus is on creating meaningful, impactful music, particularly within the Latin music industry, as I continue to grow as both an artist and a producer.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with many of the most successful stories I admire, their path has not always looked as smooth as they sound. One of my biggest struggles over the past six years has been being far from my family, only getting to visit them once a year. And missing out on important family events due to distance. This sacrifice has made me appreciate every moment with them even more. On top of that, constantly applying for scholarships to cover my tuition was a challenge, but it was necessary to finish my studies at Berklee.
Now, balancing my work commitments with my own projects, studio sessions, and writing, while also maintaining personal relationships, continues to be demanding. As a student, it was hard to prioritize a healthy lifestyle, but now, a year after college, I’ve started incorporating fitness and healthy eating into my routine to maintain balance, and mental heath.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a music producer, engineer, and singer-songwriter, with a focus on the Latin music industry. I specialize in creating and performing Latin pop, tropical, R&B, rock, and more. One thing that sets me apart is being one of the few female producers and engineers in this new generation, with a solid education from Berklee College of Music.
I’m incredibly proud of my work as a Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation ambassador, as well as my vocal credits on tracks like Rawayana’s “Game Over,” Danny Ocean’s “XO,” and Tony Succar’s work with Los Rumberos. My experience as an assistant engineer at Alacran Studios and my collaborations with Tony Succar have also been key milestones. What distinguishes me is my passion for creating music that resonates deeply, while also paving the way for other female producers and artists in the industry. I am currently working on Dani Martell’s next EP, which is an incredible project with such a big talent, I am truly proud of the whole project and can’t wait for the world to hear it so soon. There are so many different musicians I admire, and want to follow their footsteps while creating my own unique story, some of them include one of my mentors Simone Torres who is an incredible vocal engineer as well as artist, Fineas who is both producer and his own artist, Tony succar who is both artist and producer, kiunvi amazing female pop latin producer, and Kevin and Ella taubert great musical colombian power couple who are moving the latin music industry today.
I included extra experiences in the bio pdf I sent in my email if needed.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I view risk-taking as a crucial part of growth, especially in the music industry. It’s a way to step out of your comfort zone and embrace new challenges. For me, moving to a new country far from my family for college, and then to Miami to start my music career, were huge risks. Performing alongside artists like Sebastián Yatra and Nicky Jam, producing for new talents, and engineering complex studio sessions have all pushed me beyond my limits and helped shape who I am today.
Music is a career for the brave, where you create your own path full of risks, experiences, and dreams. One of the most personal risks I took was entering a relationship with my best friend, who has been by my side for three years during college. We’ve grown together, both in life and professionally, and now I’m producing his upcoming EP. It’s been an incredible journey, working with someone who understands and motivates me, and that risk has been one of the best decisions of my life.
