Today we’d like to introduce you to Pinky Lam
Hi Pinky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My business started during the pandemic as I have been baking since 6th grade and my friends have been wanting to spread my baking goodies around. So I decided to finally make the move and started an online instagram bakery.
The products are mainly specicalize from tea and there are many different types of asian tea cakes that I have. In the beginning it was very slow and I tried to promote myself at Facebook and Instagrams. Luckily, I met these two food bloggers from the Chinese “Little Red Book” app and they helped to promote my cakes and then things started to change.
After their promotions, I got more than 30 orders. Starting from there I got to know my customers and also explore more opportunities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not really! After the pandemic, I graduated from my Masters degree and focused on my full time job. I still got orders from my regulars but I didn’t get a chance to advertise more about my brand.
Things got slow and until last Christmas where I got laid off and started to bring my brand out there. Thats how everything starting again!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
pinksimplybakes is my brand and my goal is to focus on merging in my culture with delicious desserts to enlighten others.
I specialize in tea flavors and we have osmanthus oolong, chrysanthemum jasmine tea, orange zest pu-er tea, etc
The products that we make are less sweet and give you a sense of satisfaction after every bite.
One of the things that I am very proud of will be since 2020, we still haven’t receive one single negative feedback from the customers. It warms my heart everytime when they tell me that they are really happy with the desserts.
I wish every single one of my customers will feel the love and passion from the products that they got from us.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I am also still working my way up, but one advice that I wanna give will be never feel to scare to put yourself out there.
I wish that I have started participating at farmers market when I first started out, then maybe more people will have known me better.
