Meet Wayne Slavitt of Mobül in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wayne Slavitt.

Wayne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Shopping for home medical equipment (HME) has never been an enjoyable experience. When I needed items for my mother and mother-in-law, I visited several local HME stores and became more depressed with each visit. The typical HME store is small, dirty, and uninviting, with limited merchandise, sold by people who believe customer service is something other companies should provide. I found myself having to shop at stores resembling K-Mart, when I really wanted to shop at Nordstrom.

I studied the market and realized that the graying of America was in full swing and that the opportunity to present a high-end HME retail option to Baby Boomers was very possible. Enlisting the services of industry veterans, I set out to design Mobül: the mobility store.

In 2013, we opened our flagship store in Long Beach. This large showroom is bright, open, airy, and very friendly. We built a 4-room house on the showroom floor, enabling customers to try out products before they take them home.

In our fifth year, Mobül has set the new standard for shopping for mobility and medical equipment. Our staff is trained to be caring and compassionate, to listen to customers’ issues, and to propose the very best solutions. We have the largest inventory in our market of great products, many of which are not found at other stores. Customer loyalty is significant, with more than two-thirds of our sales coming from repeat business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
While revenues have grown each year in our Long Beach store, we did have to close our Fountain Valley store in 2016. This store under-performed to our goals, due to market demographics that were not apparent when the store location was studied.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mobül – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a specialty retailer of home medical and mobility equipment and supplies, such as lift chairs, scooters, beds, walkers, wheelchairs, ramps, bath safety products, and so much more. We are known for our large product selection, spacious store, and superb customer service. We have a stellar Yelp record.

I am most proud to have built the new model for how people shop for home medical equipment. My vision from the start was to build Mobül into a national chain and to consolidate the industry, which is currently very fragmented.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are hoping to find a financial partner who will fund our expansion into a national retail chain.

Wayne has formulated a much needed matrix to serve a growing and necessary component of our society. Many customers simply do not know what they do not know about the art of aging and dealing with the numerous issues that arise. His employees are excellent at identifying solutions to these issues whether post op, medical or just everyday aging challenges.

Kudos to Wayne and his team.
