Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilda Boulware
Hi Hilda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began in Tulsa Ok. Eighth and last child born to Ben and Tenolia Boulware. My early years were spent in the Greenwood District of Tulsa. Better known as Black Wall Street.
My interest always involved entertainment. Tap dance, piano lessons, theater and performance. My family was solid although we experienced various challenges including a mother who gave too much and a father who drank too much. He was a wise and prosperous businessman who didn’t take care of home. She was too generous, giving the product away, mostly food and groceries. Some of that product was needed to secure the family. It caused a lot of friction in the marriage. His womanizing didn’t help home life matters either.
After graduating with a theater degree many years were spent as a devoted but cautious but devoted artist who kept a 9-5.
Raising two children alone built and tested my resiliency. That experience along with a Masters in Spiritual Psychology developed more character in me. I became a children’s social worker as I continued with acting. All of it continues to pay off. My goal now is to solely act as a profession, earning a lucrative living.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Losing mother at 12, raising children alone, bad marriage, all very difficult..
Faith in God and the comfort of knowing the Holy Spirit with a very personal connection has kept the road paved.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At present I continue in dual careers. My first love is acting. I enjoy comedy a lot. It’ keeps things lighter. I am proud of my tv work. Especially shows like Modern Family and Grays Anatomy.
My social work, while acting successfully also sets me apart with dual efforts and accomplishments.
In social work I’m especially proud to assist Black families who often are misunderstood and culturally unappreciated. Although I make sure to respect every family and culture with a keen sense of cultural sensitivity, I love understanding and respecting my own.
Any big plans?
Working on pitching a tv script as well as turning my book “Water My Soul” into a film. I’m also working on creating a podcast with my daughter and son. Creating another one woman show or book about my ancestors. My grandfather was enslaved and their stories need to be told, through me.
