Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Batch
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Terri Batch and when I was tapped nearly a year ago to become the CEO of Global LA I was and remain excited about the possibilities. It’s almost as though I spent my entire career preparing for this role. Before this role, I worked with the U.S. Department of Commerce assisting U.S. companies with exporting their products and services to markets around the world. I specialized in supporting small and medium sized companies as well as companies from underserved communities with expanding internationally. I am currently building a team that promotes the Los Angeles region to a global audience to increase foreign direct investment, collaborating with members and supporters of Global LA to develop an economic narrative that spotlights the region ahead of the 2026 World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The goal is to increase foreign direct investment into our region and create well-paying jobs in communities that need it the most.
This is an exciting time to promote Los Angeles on a global stage. I’m energized by my recent meetings in France and the UK, two of the top foreign direct investors in the Los Angeles region. I welcome more engagement with the international community that is in Los Angeles and promoting our city to more locations around the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There always are challenges in a place as vast and diverse as Los Angeles. Even though our local economy is greatly influenced by foreign direct investment, it is not a term that is widely known and understood like other U.S. cities. As a result, I’m simultaneously conducting a local outreach effort while also launching a marketing effort that creates awareness to a foreign audience for investment opportunities.
We’ve been impressed with Global LA, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Global LA is a public-private partnership dedicated to attracting foreign direct investment to the greater Los Angeles region to create economic opportunity for all. This nonprofit was initiated by the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of International Affairs and the local business community to capture the increased interest in LA due to the upcoming global events which include the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The organization differentiates itself from other local business organizations by being a promotional organization that connects interested investors into the local ecosystem and by proactively outreaching to international businesses to inform them of opportunities in Los Angeles beyond the most obvious places for investment. Global LA is funded by grants, partners, and members, and is a 501 (c) (3) project of Community Partners.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Relationships are paramount. I urge that anyone just starting out build their network and use it well. You’ll need a support system to get past many of the challenges that will come up and, perhaps, gain a different viewpoint from someone who sees things in a way that you hadn’t.
