Inspiring Conversations with Charity Hill of EPIC Entertainment Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charity Hill

Hi Charity, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up entertaining on stage and in front of the camera. I realized early on that I wanted to be the creator of my own entertainment and not the performer of someone else’s. I studied Marketing in college and became one of the founding members of USC Spectrum, an on-campus production company made up of faculty and students who booked and produced all the entertainment coming onto campus. From world-renowned thought-provokers like Iyanla Vanzant to up and coming artists, I found fulfillment in shaping young minds through engaging entertainment. It was then that I realized education could be entertaining. That was really my first taste of being a producer. From there, I went on to work for WET (Water Entertainment Technology) Inc. — the company behind the Bellagio water feature. It was there that I noticed a gap that I would eventually seek to fill; one that married destination attractions and themed entertainment with live immersive events. I honed my skills producing hundreds of large-scale public events in a myriad of genres at the legendary Queen Mary in Long Beach before my business partner and I launched Epic Entertainment Group in 2016.

I am currently a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Epic Entertainment Group, LLC. – A collective of producers, experiential marketers, creative designers, and technical builders focused on developing, producing and operating live events and immersive entertainment experiences.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My road to success hasn’t been smoothly paved by any means. With that said, I don’t think anyone’s path is as straightforward or as slick as it may seem.
One of my greatest struggles as a young female entrepreneur has been leading gender and age-diverse teams without being pigeonholed as “too emotional” or branded a “ball-buster” while still commanding respect. If I could go back to tell my younger self one thing, it would be not to overcompensate for being a minority woman. It’s a pitfall. In general, women have been subconsciously programmed by society to accept defeat often before we even begin. Sometimes, we forget to put away the claws after climbing out of that hole.
So, if I can impart any insight to young aspiring women today, it would be to ignore the perceived societal limitations placed on women, shed any and all victim mentality, and forge a path with no apologies and no excuses. Uncheck the proverbial boxes checked for you and unsubscribe to the parameters placed upon gender. Cling tight to the idea that anything is possible with a little bit of luck, a lot of sweat, unwavering faith, and perseverance. Think of “No’s” as “Not Yet’s” and never let someone else define who you will become.

We’ve been impressed with EPIC Entertainment Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
