Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The obstacles and challenges are no different from other creatives who embark on a career in the arts. The top of the list would be getting through to people. Getting your calls returned.

Second would be keeping the creative juices flowing, regardless of the obstacles ahead. Keep creating.

Third would be being able to tell fact from fiction. So many people tell you what they think you want to hear and have no intention of following up, Their promised are empty. Despite this, a strong will and a desire to succeed is essential. Never give up. No is not an option, opportunities come when you least expect them.

Another important thing to remember is: Be Nice.

Nobody wants to work with a jerk. If you’re cool and a team player people will want you around.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a singer/songwriter but my day job is directing movies. I started out wanting to be an actor and worked in a bunch of TV commercials as a kid in Australia but was intrigued by what went on behind the camera. When my family moved to Canada I enrolled in film school but supported myself by playing in a cover band inToronto. I also began writing songs and recorded a demo in the film school’s sound mix stage. That demo landed me a record deal and my first single went to #1 in Canada. Suddenly my focus shifted and I was now in the music business. I landed a record deal with Capitol/EMI and had a number of other hit songs that charted in the Canadian Top 20. When Capitol sent me to L.A. for a recording session I fell in love with the town and was intrigued by the mystique and history. I began thinking about making films again and managed to sell a teen comedy script I had written with a friend. That film became a big success and soon I was also directing feature films. I’ve had the good luck to work with stars such as Paul Rudd, Beverly D’Angelo, Eugene Levy, and Academy Award winner, Louise Fletcher and among many others. In recent years I’ve been producing films for the Lifetime Network market place and I have also returned to music, creating songs that can be found on all music streaming services, such as Spotify. A new EP of recent material comes out August 30th, 2024.
