Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Sandoval
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2006, my professional journey began as a receptionist at a staffing company. My eagerness to grow and learn allowed me to transition into various roles and move up within the company over the next few years.
As I gained experience, I moved from receptionist to onsite coordinator, to onsite manager, to office manager. These roles allowed me to take on more responsibilities and develop my leadership skills.
By the time I became an office manager, my understanding of the industry was comprehensive, and I was ready for a new challenge. I saw an opportunity to leverage my experience and start a staffing agency with a business partner. We embarked on this new venture. After many successes and challenges, in 2013, I decided that I was ready to start my staffing agency on my own. With a single sublease office space in Rancho Cucamonga, our setup was modest—just one foldable table, one laptop, and one phone—but my vision was expansive.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The early days of United Employment Solutions were a mix of excitement and struggle. The most significant challenge was finding the right personnel. Building a successful team from scratch took time, effort, and persistence. We spent 11 years meticulously searching for the right executive team, branch managers, and regional managers who were crucial for the day-to-day operations and long-term success of our business.
The staffing industry can be cutthroat, with many players competing for the same clients and talent. Not everyone plays nice in the sandbox, and navigating these competitive dynamics requires resilience, strategic planning, and constant adaptability.
An additional struggle is that California labor laws make it extremely hard for small and mid-sized businesses to navigate the legal landscape, it is very costly and time-consuming for employers. In the staffing industry, a staffing agency faces an increased legal challenge that can be caused by outside factors beyond our control, but unfortunately, many staffing agencies are caught in the crossfire of legal battles.
One of the biggest challenges we face is the California’s high tax burden. As a result, this causes many prospective clients to move to states that have favorable tax structures and labor laws that favor employees and employers. This can have a ripple effect on companies that remain in California, as they face reduced business opportunities and increased competition in an already challenging market.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about United Employment Solutions?
When I reflect on what truly sets us apart from others, it all comes down to the relationships we’ve built. The way we communicate with our clients and the genuine connections we create with each employee who walks through our doors is something I take immense pride in. Over the past 10 years, we’ve created a culture that embodies our core values and goals, and seeing those come to life has been incredibly rewarding.
But what I’m most proud of is the inspiration we foster here—especially the inspiration I strive to instill in our employees to grow. It’s not just about leadership; it’s about creating an environment where everyone feels motivated to push themselves, to do better, and to be better. We’ve always believed that it takes hard work, dedication, and sacrifice to grow and sustain a company, and that’s a message we reinforce every day.
As new generations enter the workforce and labor laws evolve, we’ve made it a priority to stay up-to-date and to innovate constantly. Adapting to changes and finding new strategies to grow isn’t just a goal—it’s a necessity to remain competitive in our industry. We know that staying ahead of the game is the only way to continue thriving.
Of course, all of this takes hours of dedication, often at the expense of time with family and missing those precious moments with my children as they grow. It’s a reality I’ve come to accept—there’s no such thing as a perfect work-life balance for a business owner. But when I look at the incredible company we’ve built and the incredible people who are a part of it, I know that the sacrifices have been worth it.
Our journey has been one of hard work and perseverance, but it’s also been one of inspiration and growth. As we continue to move forward, I’m committed to ensuring that our company remains a place where everyone—clients, employees, and leaders alike—can continue to grow and succeed together.
What’s next?
In terms of our growth strategy, we’re setting our sights on new horizons. Expanding to the East Coast, Texas, and Arizona is at the top of our list. These regions offer exciting opportunities, and I believe our company can make a significant impact there.
As I look toward the future, I’m filled with a deep sense of excitement and anticipation. Over the years, I’ve poured my heart and soul into building this company, and it’s been an incredible journey. But as I approach the next chapter of my life, I find myself more eager to step back and enjoy all the joys that life has to offer.
One of my biggest goals is to eventually pass the reins of this company to the employees who have helped make it what it is today. I believe in the power of shared ownership, and I know that with the right people in place, the business will continue to thrive and grow. Seeing the company in the hands of those who have been with me on this journey, and knowing they will carry on the legacy, is a vision that brings me great satisfaction.
As I prepare to step back, I’m also looking forward to finally taking the time to relax, travel, and enjoy the simple pleasures that life has to offer. Whether it’s spending more time with family and friends, exploring new hobbies, or just taking a moment to savor a quiet morning with a cup of coffee, I’m ready to embrace a new chapter with open arms. I have recently realized the great importance and significance of taking the time to truly enjoy what I have built. With many sacrifices and missed birthdays throughout the years of creating a successful business, I have been faced with the fact that our time is very limited and we do not get to choose when our time will end. The thought of retiring isn’t just about stepping away from work; it’s about stepping into a new, fulfilling phase of life, where I can fully appreciate the fruits of my labor and the world around me.
The future is bright, both for this company and for me personally. I’m excited to see where the journey takes us all.
