Today we’d like to introduce you to Aeron Price
Hi Aeron, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up loving music because of my parents. My was always listening to bands like Led Zepplin, Queen, Van Halen, and a lot of the other classic rock giants. My dad always loved picking up different instruments and learning something new on them. When I first played the drums- he actually almost immediately put me in drum lessons at a very young age.
I took private drum lessons at a private studio by the name of Pulse Drumming in Ventura for the entirety of my middle and high school years. My teacher Trey O’toole was a huge inspiration and taught me the foundation of not only drums- but of what it means to be a musician.
After Highschool, I decided to really start studying music seriously. I chose to go to Santa Barbara City College where I met some incredible musicians who were also pursuing the same thing I was. These friends I made helped me push myself to reach a new level of skill and understanding. I also had a great teacher- Ed Smith, who took my foundations and strengthened them so I was ready to start taking more professional level gigs.
Throughout this time in school I got to play with some great artists including Michael McDonald, Wayne Bergeron, and Ted Nash.
I finished my degree at Cal State Northridge, where I received my bachelors degree in Jazz Studies. I was able to play in great combos with incredible mentors such as Anthony Fung, Tina Raymond, Gary Fukushima, and Michael Mull. My private teacher Jason Harnell was also a monumental figure in my development as a musician, and I cannot show enough gratitude for all the wisdom he shared with me throughout my studies.
Now I am a gigging professional musician and also opening up a home studio to do session work for other artists. I love to collaborate and help people to make their musical endeavors come together as something they are really proud of.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s always doubts when pursuing the arts. There are so many incredible musicians and artists out there. And it’s difficult when you compare yourself to others in a damaging way. It’s also lonely at times- there are many hours you spend by yourself in a room with no sun or fresh air practicing your instrument. However, realizing putting in the work and seeing a product you love makes these worries and struggles seem not so bad.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a gigging drummer, and I enjoy playing all kinds of different genres of music. I love learning people’s music and helping making their visions come alive with my instrument. I also enjoy helping with the writing and production aspect of music. I use my writing and producing skills when performing/ gigging with bands and artists, and also use my skills specific to drums and rhythm when writing producing which makes for a unique sound that people I’ve worked with appreciate.
I also love to teach music. I specialize in drumming and rhythm but can help with other aspects as well. I’ve taught for over 2 years- and all different ages!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I like all the opportunities there are! Everything is so close and there are a lot of incredible people to work with.
I guess the thing I like least is the traffic- and maybe the heat!
