Exploring Life & Business with Silva Megerditchian of SLM Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Silva Megerditchian

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After graduating from college, I had the incredible opportunity to work as a producer for a nationally syndicated radio talk show. It was an exciting role that allowed me to engage with high-profile celebrities and elite political figures, all while balancing a demanding work schedule. However, at 28, I realized my true passion lay elsewhere—I decided to pursue my lifelong dream of going to law school and becoming an attorney.

During law school, I had the privilege of working as a law clerk and later as a senior law clerk at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. It was here that I discovered my interest in understanding the deeper reasons behind people’s actions—whether it was due to abuse, foster care, mental illness, or other challenges—rather than simply seeking to punish them. I realized that, by addressing the root causes of their behavior and ensuring they received proper support, I could help people not only in their current legal battles but also in preventing future issues.

After spending over seven years at the LA Public Defender’s Office, where I represented thousands of indigent clients in criminal and juvenile cases, I made the decision to start my own firm, SLM Law. This move allowed me to offer my clients the focused attention and best possible criminal defense that they deserve. I’ve always believed that a single mistake should not define a person for the rest of their life.

Throughout my career, I’ve remained committed to the idea that everyone, regardless of income, should have access to excellent legal representation when facing criminal charges. My time in the Public Defender’s Office reinforced this belief, as I worked tirelessly to protect the rights of my clients, particularly minors, helping many to have their cases dismissed and their records cleared.

Before entering the legal field, I was a producer in the entertainment industry, navigating a male-driven environment with a reputation for hard work and quick decision-making. The skills I developed in that role—such as balancing a demanding schedule and making strategic decisions—have served me well in my legal career.

Today, as the founder of my own firm, I continue to be driven by the motto: “Don’t be scared, be EMPOWERED.” I’m dedicated to empowering my clients and ensuring that they are treated fairly within the criminal justice system.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has certainly had its challenges. Early in my career, I navigated the male-dominated environment of the radio industry, where I often faced bias. However, I always believed in letting my work speak for itself—judging me by my work product and capabilities rather than my gender.

As an LA public defender, I found immense fulfillment in representing my clients, but the sheer volume of cases assigned to me made it difficult to provide the level of personal attention I wanted. I longed for more control and the ability to build deeper, more meaningful relationships with my clients, ensuring they felt heard and had someone truly dedicated to fighting for them.

Making a name for myself in the criminal defense world was also a struggle at the beginning, but I was driven by the belief that consistently delivering great work would lead to success. Through perseverance and dedication, I’ve been able to grow and establish myself in the field.

We’ve been impressed with SLM Law, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a criminal defense attorney specializing in representing both adults and children who are facing federal or state criminal charges. What sets me apart is the personal touch I bring to my practice. I’m deeply committed to fighting for my clients during their darkest hours, ensuring that they feel empowered and heard in a system that can often be overwhelming and intimidating.

My approach is centered on making a frightening situation more manageable by providing my clients with a voice and guiding them through each step of the legal process. I’m proud to offer not just legal expertise, but also the reassurance and support that my clients need when they are most vulnerable.

At the core of my brand is a dedication to compassion—every client is treated with the attention, respect and care they deserve. I want readers to know that when they choose my firm, they’re not just getting a lawyer; they’re getting an advocate who will stand by them and fight for their rights every step of the way.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is giving my clients a sense of hope. I strive to provide them with the tools to change their lives for the better, helping them understand that one mistake does not define them. My goal is to show them that they can learn, make amends, and move forward to live meaningful, quality lives.

On a personal level, what matters most is staying grounded, compassionate, and kind, and never giving up the fight. I believe in living a meaningful and happy life, and treating others with the same respect and kindness that I would want to be treated with.
