Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Morong
Hi Bobby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hey there! I’m Bobby Morong, known as GrobeStreet, and my co-host is Matt Doeringer, also known as StanSteamer. We’re both Boston natives and lifelong movie lovers who enjoy every unique story films have to offer.
Our journey into podcasting started with a simple conversation about the movie “The Net” starring Sandra Bullock. We were shocked to discover it had such low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes—below 50% in BOTH Critics and Audience categories. We couldn’t believe it! This sparked an idea: what if we started a podcast dedicated to celebrating movies that we love but have been unfairly judged by critics and audiences?
And so, “Slept-On Cinema” was born. We focus exclusively on films that score at or below 50% on Rotten Tomatoes in both categories, sharing our appreciation and positive take on these underrated gems. Our goal is to open people’s eyes to the joy these films can bring and spread a bit of positivity in the movie-watching world.
After spending 20 years teaching elementary school in Boston, my family and I decided to embark on a new adventure in California. Matt and his family are still in Boston. We’ve now recorded over 50 episodes, and we’re excited to share our passion for cinema with listeners who enjoy finding hidden treasures in the film industry.
“Slept-On Cinema” is more than just a podcast for us; it’s a labor of love, a way to connect with fellow movie enthusiasts, and a platform to celebrate the films that deserve a second (and first!) chance. We’re excited to see where this journey takes us and hope to continue spreading movie fun, one underrated film at a time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Both Matt and I juggle busy lives—Matt’s a lawyer with two kids, and I’m an entrepreneur and dad of two as well. Finding time to record and edit amidst the chaos of family life has been quite the balancing act.
We’ve had our fair share of technical glitches and late-night editing sessions, but we always end up laughing through the challenges. Learning the ins and outs of podcasting has been an adventure in itself.
Despite our busy schedules, we love dedicating time to this project. It’s our creative outlet and a way to unwind and share our passion for movies. Plus, it’s a great excuse to watch more films and nerd out about them!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Slept-On Cinema Podcast?

What We Want You to Know:
At Slept-On Cinema, we’re all about having fun and celebrating movies that might have been overlooked. We want our listeners to feel like they’re chatting with friends about films they love. Whether you’re a movie buff or just looking for something new to watch, our podcast offers a unique and entertaining perspective that’s sure to make you smile.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One surprising thing that most people might not know about us is that despite our deep love for movies, neither Matt nor I have any formal background in film or media. I spent 20 years as a teacher in Boston, and Matt is a full-time lawyer. Our podcasting journey started purely as a fun hobby and a way to share our passion for overlooked movies with the world.
Another surprising tidbit is that we record many of our episodes late at night after our kids are asleep. Balancing family life with podcasting can be challenging, but it’s also what makes this project so special to us. It’s our way of unwinding and having a bit of creative fun amidst our busy schedules.
And here’s a fun fact: our ultimate dream is to get Quentin Tarantino on the podcast, mainly because Matt’s wife says that we’ll never be big enough to make it happen. We love aiming high and keeping the dream alive!
