Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Astro
Hi Dave, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. It all began with my older brother who received a guitar as a gift but shortly after wasn’t interested in it anymore. I picked up that guitar at age 2 and I started to play with it. Guitar became an emotional outlet for me where I could express myself creatively. The passion continued to grow over the years as I started to compose my own songs, play in different bands and work for musical companies as a pit musician.
I decided to make a career out of music so I auditioned and got accepted at the Berklee College of Music but unfortunately was not able to attend due to financial reasons. I ended up attending the Los Angeles College of Music which was for me a blessing in disguise because I was fortunate enough to start working there as a music tutor for guitar, theory and piano while studying for my Bachelor’s degree. After receiving my degree I further continued my studies at USC where I graduated in 2021 with my Master of Music.
During my studies I made strong connections with fellow musicians which led me to travel to Switzerland and live out there for three years working as a guitar instructor and performing my own music. I just moved back to Los Angeles where I plan to take the city by storm with my music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Throughout my road there has been lots of challenges, struggles and compromising but it has never slowed me down. I’ve always had the belief that if you stay ready you don’t have to get ready. Meaning that I would do everything I could to prepare whether it would be for rehearsals, performances or auditions. I would always make sure that I was prepared physically and mentally for any obstacle that life would throw at me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist who writes, produces and performs my original music. I have released multiple singles and my music can be heard on all streaming platforms. While I’m working on my first album, I perform as a session guitarist for various artists. I also work as a music instructor.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
If you follow your passion in life you never really have a bad day. I have never dreaded going into work or a performance because I enjoy what I do.
