Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrine Avetyan
Hi Adrine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The idea to open Scalp Sanctuary came to me in 2023 when I went back to a head spa I had visited a couple months prior. I’ve been in private practice since 2010, as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and absolutely love what I do. But while I was walking out of the head spa, in complete bliss from the relaxation of the scalp treatment, I turned around and thought to myself “I’d love to open up a wellness spa and include scalp treatments as one of the services, to promote overall wellness.” So in true “Adrine-form” I didn’t waste a second. I went home and started researching the benefits of scalp treatments, steps in opening up spas, etc. After a couple of months, I was almost convinced it was the next career path I wanted to take. I woke up one morning and asked to have a sign that led me toward making the final decision of whether or not to move forward with a spa. I went to my hairdresser and dear friend, Janine, at Volume III hair salon and asked her for some advice on the plan I had. She paused and said “Omg, wait a second, I have a client here who does scalp treatments, and you should consult with her!” So she called her over and she was the sign I had asked for. Her client was so supportive and informative, and encouraged me to move forward with my plan.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve valued the idea of taking care of the self, as a whole, in order to have the capacity to take care of others, and this wellness spa was a way to do just that, for myself and those in my community. In early 2024, I made the final decision to open up Scalp Sanctuary, a wellness and scalp spa with a unique twist: incorporating a stillness room (to hold meditation and sound bath groups) to promote self-care, combining physical and mental health, all in one space. With the help of my leasing agent, we finalized the location and began this beautiful journey. Scalp Sanctuary will begin with offering scalp treatments, a blow dry bar, Procell treatments to aid with hair loss, and meditation/sound bath groups. We hope to add more self-care services in the future. Our goal is to open up our doors in the Fall of 2024.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been as smooth as any business venture could be :). As difficult as some moments have been, I’ve appreciated any challenge that has come up, because it has offered me the opportunity to learn and grow. To be quite transparent, the city permitting has been the most difficult part thus far, as it’s delayed construction and ultimately opening my doors, but I do appreciate how meticulous they are. One of my personal goals has been to let go and surrender to the process, so this journey has allowed me to practice just that. Overall, I’ve seen so much magic happen in this endeavor, that it’s overshadowed the challenges. I’m certain this is just the beginning, and I’m looking forward to more experiences that can help me develop both personally and professionally.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Scalp Sanctuary is meant to be a space for every single person to feel nurtured and taken care of. My goal is to create a spa that attracts people from all walks of life, looking to have a safe and peaceful place to come into, leaving all of life’s stressors, struggles, and responsibilities outside the door. My vision is to make every single person that walks in, feel like they matter, they are loved, and they are part of a family. I’ve always valued the relationships I’ve built, because I believe the essence of being human lies in the connections we form. I hope this vision, along with the professionalism of our services, will create a memorable experience for each person who comes in to Scalp Sanctuary.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the close community feeling Pasadena offers! It’s like a huge family that supports and takes care of one another. I also love the architecture and the charm the city has. I honestly can’t think of one thing I would change…
