Rising Stars: Meet Tracy Tang of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Tang

Hi Tracy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When Covid was somewhat ending and calming down around 2022, it was when I decided to start an event planning and decor service business. I’ve always loved to decorate since I was young, but I never pursued it as a career or job because growing up in an Asian household, I was always told to go to college, get a degree, and then get a job with your college degree. Event planning and decorating was not seen as a real job in my parent’s eyes. As I got older I realized this is what I like to do so why not make it into a pat time job. I would love to make my event planning and decor business into a full time job one day. As of right now, I’m a full time government employee and a part time event planner/decorator.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hard part of my business was getting more clients. When I first started I wasn’t very good at marketing, but within time I started learning how to advertise to reach more customers and what type of advertisements I should do for my business. I can honestly say Instagram ads have been one of the most effective ways to advertise my business, but it can start getting expensive sometimes for these advertisements. It’s all about trial and error. You slowly find out what works for you and what doesn’t.

With the help of my sister and some of my friends, they really motivated me to keep going even when I felt like giving up. I went through some downs in my personal life during 2023 and I had stopped taking any bookings for my business for quite some time. During this time, one of my friend’s Jasmin said “Don’t give up on your small business, you just started it not too long ago. I see potential in this. If you want, I can help you, especially if you get a big gig. I just hate to see you give up and you have all this decor inventory just sitting in your storage unit.” She was right, I told myself just because I’m going through some personal things in my life that doesn’t mean I should just give up.

My sister Stacy was also a big influence in getting me back on track. She has helped me with a lot of my picnic setups. I really want to thank all my friends and my sister for all the love and support you guys have given me. I don’t think I would have made it this far without them.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My business specializes in setting up luxury and bohemian picnics, event decorations, and engagement proposals. Surprise birthdays and proposals are my favorite to do! I love seeing all my client’s guest reactions when they show up to their surprise decoration setup. It is the highlight of my day knowing that I made someone feel happy and loved. You know what they say, it’s not a job if you love what you do.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
For those who are interested in booking me for a pop up picnic setup, proposal setup, or miscellaneous event decoration, you can message me on Instagram or my website.
