Community Highlights: Meet Cassandra Floyd of Release Heart Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Floyd

Hi Cassandra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Cassandra Faye Floyd aka Daughter of the Fates! I have been a healer since 1996; beginning my journey with the birth of my daughter who was very sickly in her first two years of life. Expanding my abilities as a healer descended from a line of healers, I enrolled in medical school in 2005 & completed my education in 2014 with 4 degrees in the fields of Alternative Medicine, Massage Therapy & Energy Healing, & finally Traditional Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture/Professional Health Sciences. I have 2 B.S. degrees, an Associate’s degree, & a Master’s degree all in the fields of both Western & Alternative Medicine.

In addition to my professional background, my role as a Spiritual healer is equally extensive &, in a lot of ways, has been directly tied to my work as a medical professional healer. Facilitating on behalf of others for 3 years now as an ordained minister, I am the founder of the Temple of Evolutionary Emergence (501c3) based in Los California. In my capacity as a minister, I offer couples therapy/counseling, commitment ceremonies/weddings, homegoings/funerals, readings/divination (tarot/iChing/5 Elements, etc), energy clearings, feng shui services, mentorship programs, Ancestral trauma healing & much more.

After participating in serious political activism in the South from 2001-2016 (and experiencing political burnout), I decided to take an ‘adventure’ that lead me on a 6-week road trip across country to California. I arrived here in the summer of 2018, intending only to visit, but instead made California home.

California welcomed me with a wealth of extraordinary experiences and events more extraordinary people. I often tell people that my time here has been consistently defined by one miracle after another! I have donated hundreds of volunteer hours to multiple local organizations, i’ve taught innumerable workshops and lectures to people ranging in ages from 5 years – 80 years old. The topics have ranged from living and thriving through harmonious relationship with the Earth and practical use of Chinese medicine to achieve optimal health to How to use witchcraft to dismantle the patriarchy!

Currently, I’m reestablishing a more intimate relationship with my first love: Music! I majored in music for two+ years, but gave it up to “get a real job”! As an adult, I’ve come understand how important our childhood dreams and desires are. So, about 8 months ago, I began taking sitar (East indian traditional instrument) lessons and recently had my first live performance at Glendale Community College. I also began taking saxophone lessons in December of last year to get reacquainted with my first instrument for which I had not played in 20+ years.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is it ever a smooth road? LOL! Especially for women, and even more especially for Black women? So, the answer is no. In fact, the ‘struggles’ have been many and varied. However, the journey has been EPIC! My life’s story is in no way defined by the struggles that presented themselves! I went home last year to spend some time with my Mother (I capitalize Mother deliberately) after She received some shocking health information. I am reminded now of something both She and my stepfather said to me while I was there. My Mom said, “No matter how bad, wild, or uncertain things seem to be going in your life, you just STAY manifesting miracles!” This is what has and continues to define my life: MIRACLES, MAGIC! I have story after story of completely unbelievable moments that anytime i tell them the frequent response is “I can’t wait for the book” (which of course hasn’t been written yet)!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Release Heart Center is my Wellness Consultation business. This is my “occupation”. I love what I do as a healer! I am good at what I do! This business is the technical application of my skills as a healer/wellness practitioner. My primary specialty is in 5 Elements Theory of Chinese Medicine. I teach 5 Elements Theory and it is also the primary method that I use in consultation. Though my Masters is in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which I love, 5 Elements theory always appealed to the artist/poet/musician in me. It is an extraordinary and beautiful way to understand the human condition. It makes relatable what many times eludes us: how to uncomplicate the mastery our own health and bodies.

I am rapidly approaching 50 years of age! And when you get to be my age and experience what I have, you begin to chart new courses and have new dreams and ambitions. I am actively in the process of focusing more on the transference of my skills through the development of an apprenticeship program and through teaching continuing education units to health professionals. I have always seen it as important for us all to reproduce our skills in others so that we simultaneously empower others while securing those skills for the community in the future.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
This is a huge question and one I address often in my teaching! My main advise is: ALWAYS TRUST THAT VOICE INSIDE YOU! It is ancient and wise and will never lead you astray! Now, this is a learned skill, of course, how to distinguish if what we’re hearing is our ancient voice or is it our conditioning/programming/trauma. It is the most important lesson we’ll learn: How to really HEAR!

Secondly, the desires of our childhood heart are more important than their ever given space for in this society. Fight for them! The most toxic emotion is regret! Our lives from 0-21 are our foundational years; establishing patterns, memories, rhythms, etc! And unfortunately, people recall the hurt of their youth much more than they do the gems and moments of ecstasy in their youth. Those years of life are like the caves of our mines that hold within tons of buried treasures, but we must dig deep to retrieve them!

Pleasure is medicine! This is my third lesson. In my estimation, it is the medicine that will most radically and rapidly change the world. I know, this is different from what all the social norms teach us! Our flesh is our ‘feeling’ mechanism that is always attempting to teach us about the world around us, to live harmoniously within that world and to preserve our lives as we walk through this life. The historical narrative that has attempted to demote the significance of the flesh to a mere ‘vehicle’ for which the mighty soul travels through, has done a great disservice to human beings. The flesh is sacred! The flesh is just as much a part of the body of God as the Spirit! What the Flesh experiences, the Spirit experiences. Pleasure and pain inform us of the ways that we can safely navigate this life, and all too often we accept that ‘struggle’, ‘pain’, ‘hard work’ are the only ways to insure a spiritual experience. This is a lie! This is a myth! Children teach everything we need to know about what life is supposed to be and feel like: Bliss, joy, happiness, lots of laughter, smiles, hugs, truly unconditional love and care, living fully in the present, Playing for no other reason than to feel good in the moment, is one of the great lessons children are trying to teach us!

Lastly, believe in YOU at all costs!! Always, Always, Always be your full authentic self out loud and on purpose! When you do that, you will always attract exactly what you need, exactly when you need it! Those who truly SEE you, will rush to you, to support you, to learn from you, to uplift you, to assist you! This is how magic unfolds! This is how miracles happen; through our authentic relationships with others!
