Conversations with Stephanie Quintana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Quintana.

Stephanie Quintana

Hi Stephanie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Inspiration is how I started.

I will take it way back… I was born in the 90’s my aunt was a hair dresser & would cut all of our families hair and my mom’s friend would bring over her Caboodles makeup kit. Consisted of that silver 90s inspo glam.
I was about 6-7 years old when I’d watch them get ready, drawing in that thin brow, eyeliner & the frosted lip.

In 2020 I attended my first makeup course in Los Angeles, after 4 years of being self taught from the internet university (as I like to call it).
This course lit the fire in me.
I met many artist from around the world, whose stories & portfolios were inspiring to me.

I went back home to my country backyard, after 3 days in Los Angeles I arrived home thinking I’m quitting my job I’m taking this full on and moving to LA.

Once I set my two feet on the ground I thought perhaps I’ll save some money then move.

As we all know the pandemic hit.

I took the time to invest in my kit & more courses.
I was booked for my very first bridal party of 8 ladies in 2021 (which will forever hold a special place in my heart).

From that day forward I would take clients before work, on my days off or after work as I maintained a full time corporate job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As much as my social media highlights the “perfect” moments. It has not been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Imposter syndrome hits hard as a creative, sometimes I catch myself feeling if I’m doing enough. That is one of the biggest struggles along the way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Makeup Artist, currently I get booked for bridal makeup, photoshoots & assist on set. I’m recognized for soft glam & giving that glow!
The work ethic instilled in me is what I am most proud of & I thank my parents & sisters for that.
The cleanliness, organization & attention to detail is what sets me apart. I’ve had clients say they’ve booked with me due to my social media posts about client safety & sanitation. Knowing someone feels safe & beautiful in my chair is everything. I do take pride in that.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Living a fulfilling life, full of experiences, memories & happiness is what matters most to me.

A few months into the pandemic my grandpa passed. I later got the same virus as I felt my health declining & what seemed like the end of times, it was just the beginning to an awakening of what I wanted for my life.

About a year later I decided to leave my job, I’d applied to another similar job.
A few nights before that interview my grandpa visited me in my dream. He was standing outside that same course I attended in 2020 & told me to go in for my interview & to not be scared that he is so proud of my growth. We hugged and cried, I woke up crying still to realize this was the message I needed.

I then invested all I had into more makeup courses & tools, equipment etc.

I knew it was the road to take, I didn’t know how or where or how far but I I started.

Then in 2023 I saw the same artist had the same course & although I’ve taken others I retook it because her style is like no other.
During this 3 day course it felt like everything happening was the way it was meant to.
I had a dejavu moment as a student from Argentina was doing my makeup, I had seen her before in the same way (although we never met before) & I told her. She says she had the same moment when I was doing her makeup.
It gave me goosebumps because after that it felt like doors were just opening one after another.

Art inspires art & for that I am forever inspired.
