Community Highlights: Meet Emily Roose of Emily Roose Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Roose.

Emily Roose

Hi Emily, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As most careers go, I started out in promotions, digital content creation, and marketing in radio thinking this was going to be my lifelong career and then I was laid off after years in the business. I decided to go back to school to see what other career I might be interested in, and I had always had a love for architecture and interior design. I decided to take some classes on interior design and see if I liked it and if I had any natural talent for it. I ended up loving it and completed my bachelor’s degree from The Art Institute. I interned for LEED AP and historic preservation designer Sarah Barnard in Los Angeles and then went to work for celebrity designer Steven Cordrey also in Los Angeles. They both taught me so much and are still my mentors to this day. Under Steven I got to work with him on a nightclub, a large hotel, doctor’s offices, a 17-story residential condo building, high-end luxury residential projects, learned about furniture design, and managed his designer showroom. After working for these two amazing designers, I moved to North Lake Tahoe and worked for a lighting showroom, an architectural firm, builders, and then after more layoffs decided to take the leap and started my own design firm. I have owned my firm for over 6 years now. I am still learning the ropes of entrepreneurship and finding ways to evolve as a business owner and creator.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. Starting a business is always scary no matter how many business and marketing classes you take or years of experience and education you have in your field. In addition to my interior design degree, I also have a degree in marketing. I started my firm at the beginning of 2018 and over the last 6 years have had numerous ups and downs professionally and personally. I just take one day at a time and keep networking, learning, educating myself, growing, and looking for opportunities to keep moving forward.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Emily Roose Interiors?
I am an interior designer and I also design furniture and light fixtures. I am located in the Lake Tahoe region but have expanded my services back to my roots in Southern California, Tennessee and Georgia. I have worked throughout California, Nevada, Hawaii, and Washington over the years, and I am always open and interested in locations around the country or the world. I am known for my high-end luxurious residential homes and vacation homes, but I also specialize in commercial, hospitality, multi-family developments, and home staging. I have won numerous awards over the years regionally, nationally, and internationally and have also been featured in publications throughout the US and UK. What sets me apart from others in my field is that I have a business, promotions, and marketing background not just a background in interior design. I also work on several project types and styles rather than only being focused on residential design. I enjoy the challenge that each project brings and the different ways I get to stretch and expand my creativity. I feel that it makes me a better designer by being more diversified with my portfolio. I am proud of the work I have done so far and that I also design furniture and light fixtures which adds another element to my designs and makes them more unique and personalized for each client. I am wanting to expand my company not only in reach, but I want to start a furniture collection, a lighting collection, and dabble in other product design opportunities. I also want to open a designer showroom that can offer furnishings, feature artists, and connect with the community. I am looking for more projects of all types and opportunities to keep growing my brand possibly through collaborations or more speaking engagements either in person or through podcasts. I recently started my blog on Substack called Homey Haven where I dive into healthy living, wellness, sustainability, and the world of interior design. I love creative outlets and finding more ways to reach clients and those that also have a passion for all things design.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I also dabble in painting and landscape photography. I am an artist on many levels and love to be creative. I have a little boy and an energetic female husky malamute that are my world. So those looking for a designer that understands the need to design with kids and dogs in mind I have lots of personal experience as well as years working with clients that have kids and pets. I am always looking for new ways to expand what I do so I would love to connect with other professionals to collaborate on projects or new ideas.
