Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamielee Sarcedo
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, and I moved to California 11 years ago. When I got here, I already knew I wanted to work for myself in the Beauty industry, specifically in the Skin Care field. It’s been a passion & dream of mine for quite some time, but living in Hawai’i, we don’t get much opportunity to pursue such a career. In California, however, I felt like the skies were the limit.
Three years into living here after getting settled in, I found my way into the industry at Citrus College & got my aesthetician license & hit the ground running.
At first, I tried to go out on my own doing facials and waxing, but it didn’t pan out as expected & after six months, I had to close my business. Then, a friend of mine talked me into working with her at the European Wax Center, & that’s where I found my passion for waxing.
Two years later, in 2019, I opened a beauty business again, but this time for Eyebrow Tattooing & shortly that following year, COVID-19 happened. Thanks to the fantastic salon owner I was renting from, she ensured we all made it through by being flexible with our rent.
When we finally got back to work, I quit my job and just went all in with my beauty business and added waxing to my menu. I started promoting myself doing TikToks & Reels & after going viral many times on both platforms & with the many referrals from existing clients, my business quickly grew! A few months later, my waxing became so booked with clients because of my funny, relatable & educational videos that I had to step away from tattooing eyebrows.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since I opened in 2019, right before the pandemic, there have been many obstacles right from the startrt, with the multiple Covid shutdowns & the uncertainty of the economy with the rise in the cost of living after that, who knew what would happen next. Then, on top of things, I was going through personal battles in my household to where I had to rebuild a life for my three children & me on my own. So, the road to success and growth has been anything but smooth.
I will be celebrating 5years open this year, & I can not be more grateful for how far my business has come. Every year had its many challenges inside & outside of my salon.
With the many battles fought behind closed doors, the WINS shone brighter than ever & kept me going! I created my own brow serum & wax formula, went viral multiple times on all platforms, and built the name & reputation that I have today, WAXME_ JAMIELEE & it brought me so many opportunities & new clients from EVERYWHERE! I was even featured in “The US-Sun” because of one of my viral videos. Then, I placed twice in my first international waxing competition!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a licensed esthetician working as a full-body Wax Master. The biggest things I specialize in and am known for are my Brazilian waxing & eyebrow recovery services.
What I think sets me apart from others & what I pride myself on is how comfortable my clients feel immediately upon meeting me because of my personality & knowledge in this field. Waxing can be a terrifying service because of the pain it can inflict, especially in delicate areas. On top of that, it doesn’t have the best history or a good reputation out there, so I feel like I’m changing its narrative.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned in this journey is just always to trust yourself & go with your gut feeling when making moves and or decisions in your business, even if it’s wrong.
You want to minimize that “what if” factor because “what if…” that was a door of opportunity that works out and further boosts your business. Even if it turns out to be a wrong choice or a mistake, there’s still value in that because now you have new knowledge of something you didn’t know or experienced.
I’ve made so many errors & mistakes along the way, but because of those lessons I’ve had to go through it has made me that much more knowledgeable & confident in my skills as a waxer and business owner.
