Today we’d like to introduce you to JoJo Williams.
Hi JoJo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After a career of over 25 years, I decided to make a career change to a field I was most passionate about holistic care. I enrolled in college to become a Certified Massage Therapist. As I developed my massage skills, I quickly discovered I wanted to specialize in Prenatal & Postnatal care along with energy work. I dove into learning as much as I could, taking multiple continuing education courses to perfect my skills. As I grew, my connection for the birthing world became something I was also very passionate about. I knew I had to learn more, so I began to study to become a birth and postpartum doula. During the pandemic, I decided to open my own private practice offering massage therapy and doula support. As a massage therapist of over 15 years, being now a sole proprietor has been so rewarding and has allowed me to be creative, serving my community in multiple ways!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business during the pandemic certainly had its challenges! I started very small, renting a part-time space under the regulations at the time with LA County. After 3 months, I had to expand my business to meet the demands, prompting a relocation, which I was not expecting due to our country’s dire situation. Relocating during the pandemic was not easy, however I stayed focused and made it happen. My next hurdle was re-evaluating my menu of offerings. As a sole proprietor offering massage therapy and doula support, my waitlist grew to be 2 months long for all massage-related services, and I was at capacity for doula support. I began hearing from many who were frustrated at the long wait for services. I made the decision to scale down my doula supports to be able to focus on massage therapy.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Body and Soul by JoJo, I specialize in Prenatal and Postnatal bodywork. I also specialize in lymphatic drainage, post-surgical recovery & Craniosacral Fascial Therapy for infants, children and adults. What sets me apart from others is my ability to serve the unique needs of the pregnancy and postpartum body as well as my ability to treat the entire family. In addition to my services, I also provide prenatal, postnatal & wellness consulting, which adds to the overall well-being of those I serve.
How do you think about luck?
I like to think that we are all lucky in some way. Luck has much to do with what we give to the universe and what intentions we hold for ourselves. I feel very fortunate to be abundant in many ways, both in my personal life and within my business. I continually pour into myself and every service I provide, which I believe comes back to me tenfold.\
