Meet Katrina Nelson of Malibu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Nelson

Hi Katrina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a young girl, I would watch my grandmother (who was in the circus) put on her makeup and from there I would go on set with my mother and watch her do makeup for the stars! I soon realized that I wanted to be a makeup artist. The moment I graduated High School in the year 2000, I attended The Studio Makeup Academy of Hollywood. Located at Sunset Gower Studios. I remember feeling so excited at times because there I was learning how to do makeup and watching celebrities roam the lot everyday. Soon after I graduated from makeup school, I had the privilege of working on many celebrities on film and television with my mother. What a treat!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After I had my daughter, I soon realized that working within the film and television industry would take me away from being a mom. That’s when I decided to start my own business! I chose to join my twin sister, who is a wedding photographer, and become a Bridal and Special Events Makeup Artist. My sister and I have so enjoyed joining forces and working together.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me a part from others is that I truly care about my clients. It is not just about money for me. It is all about making a difference. When a woman feels beautiful, she exudes confidence. I get so much joy out of bringing out the natural beauty in each and every person I am honored to work on.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
What matters for me is paying it forward. I was blessed enough to have so many people help me with my career. Who ever is reading this my advice to you is to go to a good makeup school. It is well worth your time and investment.
