Today we’d like to introduce you to Xianghan Wang
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Xianghan(Sharon) Wang, a designer/animator currently based in Los Angeles, where I bring my passion for creative technology, multidisciplinary art, and visual design into every project I work on. With a MS degree in Integrated Digital Media from New York University, I’ve honed my skills to craft immersive digital experiences that bridge the gap between the virtual and physical worlds. Currently, I work as a Motion Designer at Apple, use my expertise to create captivating digital narratives. Before Apple, I gained invaluable experience working at Ogilvy and MediaMonks. With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to innovation, I work to push the boundaries of digital design and shape the future of visual storytelling.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The design journey is never a smooth road, and mine has been no exception. Starting with digital art, a multidisciplinary major, I had the chance to delve into various creative fields such as graphic design, video production, 3D modeling, UI/UX design, and even emerging technologies like AR/VR.
While the major was incredibly fun and enriching, it posed its own challenges. One of the biggest struggles was the sheer breadth of knowledge required. It was difficult to become an expert in any one area due to the need to learn so many different skills. This sometimes made it hard to see a clear path forward in my career.
However, these diverse experiences also allowed me to appreciate the world from multiple perspectives and deeply inspired my passion for creativity. Despite the challenges, my love for design and innovation has only grown stronger. Creativity remains my driving force, filling my heart with enthusiasm and vitality, whether I am working in design or exploring other fields.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I currently work as a Motion Designer at Apple Instructional Product team, and I’m deeply passionate about our instructional products. Leading the production of Vision Pro tips animations is one of my most fulfilling responsibilities, as it allows me to play a crucial role in educating users and enhancing their experience with our products. By crafting these animations, I strive to make complex operations more accessible and empower users to maximize the capabilities of their devices. Additionally, I play an important role within the Instructional Products group, creating welcoming, informative, and inspiring user experiences across various Apple products. I specialize in defining motion, transitions, and interactions for a wide range of user interfaces, collaborating closely with a diverse team to bring interactive designs to life.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be to maintain a passion for learning and exploration, as well as a genuine love for life. This industry is constantly evolving, requiring continuous learning to ensure relevance and competitiveness. However, maintaining a love for life can provide inspiration and creativity, allowing you to approach projects with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. Additionally, don’t be afraid to take risks and push boundaries in your work. Embrace failure as an opportunity for growth and never stop challenging yourself to reach new heights in your creative journey.
In addition to regularly following designer websites, I highly recommend participating in industry conferences and competitions to enhance skills in the creative industry. These events not only provide valuable insights into the latest trends and developments but also offer opportunities to network with industry leaders and peers.
