Today we’d like to introduce you to Wyatt Anderson
Hi Wyatt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started ” really ” acting in highs cool like most of the people out here in this industry. I think the interesting variation in my story is that I never wanted to do theatre, I never liked acting and Wanted to be a director or a writer, In fact the only reason that I joined the class in the first place is because I had the biggest crush , was completely in love with a cute girl who did the school plays every semester. So naturally I figured joining theatre was by best shot at young love. And while that didn’t pan out for me I found something really awesome onstage. Maybe the attention I was getting, or the fact that I was good at it, That I hadn’t ever been good at anything up until then… I mean I was a real loser in highschool and that class made me feel special… Years later after trying 3 times to graduate college and trying to make it as a director I met an actress new to the city who I fell in love with. I decided that life was too short and I told my parents, hey im dropping out and Im gonna pursue acting. They supported me anxiously, but nevertheless they did, and that spring, right before covid I followed the girl of my dreams out To Los Angeles from the far off city of Santa Clarita. ( have you picked up on a theme yet?)
Now Of course that girl didn’t pan out either, and I found myself surrounded by talented people all over and I realized how little a fish was I, So I hit the pavement hard. I trained with coaches all across the city, I traveled and worked where I could , Taking the night shift in a warehouse to pay rent, and going to classes and set during the day. I eventually found a coach I loved and moved out to the valley where I really fell in love with acting, not just silver screen dreams or the whimsy of a girl but the gut wrenching craft that it is. And that’s where I am today, a student of it, I have let this art form totally consume me and I love it, it’s everything to me. Right now I’m writing a feature film which is awesome im glad I have circled back to writing again, I starred in a movie coming out over the summer , I have a handful of pilot episodes ive been in and an awesome web project that I think everyone will find hilarious!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish I had skipped ahead and read all of the questions first…. No not at all, Covid, the strike, Rejection. If you do this and it’s easy youre stupid lucky or youre lying… Everyone has to pick their head up and keep going even when you can’t… A stranger gave me great advice once ” just do it till it doesn’t make sense anymore” that stuck with me for a while… still. I think thats what we all do.
But the bumps in the road brought me back to writing, producing and now composing which is awesome!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Honestly, I think as actors were all so different but so the same. It’s incredibly frustrating but really wholesome. I usually like to answer this question with bringing up Composing, I play 9 different instruments and have been making music since I was a toddler. I think my acting background helps me understand story which helps me make powerful moving film score, and my music background inspires confidence in me to act freely on set and make creative inspired choices
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I anyone In LA says they aren’t a risk taker they’re not properly checking in on the world around them, this city is so hard to survive in and I don’t even mean just for actors… Living here is a risk! But yeah I am, for being a bit of a goofball most of the time Ive always had a red streak, I was a punk teenager who didn’t like being told what to do. So for me risk taking is just saying F-you, I don’t care what happens or if you like it, I’m going for it and it’ll work or it won’t work ( speaking about art, im not out here telling people to F-off)
