Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Messelbeck. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Lauren is a licensed acupuncturist and the founder of Life Point Acupuncture. A Costa Mesa native with deep roots in Orange County, Lauren started Life Point in 2018 to provide patient-centered care that addresses the body and the mind. Lauren prides herself on serving local families with presence, compassion, and wholeheartedness.
With over 10 years of experience in integrative healthcare, Lauren has worked alongside physicians, physical therapists, nurse navigators, and other allied healthcare professionals to establish successful treatment strategies. Lauren is experienced in treating infertility, IVF patients, orthopedic and sports injuries, Ehler Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD), mental health disorders, and provides supportive care for oncology patients through treatment and into survivorship.
When Lauren was 15 years old, her youngest brother was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, ALL. After watching him battle the side effects of the medications and procedures that worked to save his life, she knew she wanted to help. She followed in her mom’s footsteps by becoming a physical therapist. As an athlete and a dancer, she has a deep passion for all forms of purposeful movement that could enhance performance and feel good. She majored in Kinesiology and was studying abroad when she received a phone call from home. Her aunt had stage four ovarian cancer, and her mom had early-stage breast cancer. Her aunt battled cancer for five years before she passed away after her 50th birthday. When Lauren learned that acupuncture helped her boost aunt’s immune system and battle nausea and neuropathy associated with her chemotherapy, she had to know more. She canceled her PT school applications after trying acupuncture for herself and gained the opportunity to help an acupuncturist in San Diego open and grow their practice.
After graduating at the top of her class with a Masters in Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health Sciences in San Diego, Lauren practiced at Open Mind Modalities, part of the Integrative Health Program at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Under the guidance of co-founders Ruth McCarty and pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. William Louden, Lauren provided Traditional Chinese
Medicine treatments for critically ill patients and their families, some of whom she still sees today.
She opened up Life Point Acupuncture in Newport Beach in 2018. The acupuncturist she trained to take her position at the integrative program at CHOC now works by her side at Life Point, along with two other incredible acupuncturists.
Outside of the clinic, Lauren has been honored to speak at The Hoag Annual Cancer Survivorship Symposium and the cancer survivor groups at The Cancer Center at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach. She is passionate about providing resources and tools to improve the quality of life for cancer patients in her community. She lives in Costa Mesa with her husband, two daughters, and two dogs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning my own business has its challenges, but I have been extremely fortunate. In 2019, I was searching for a new office manager, and a patient of mine saw the ad. She was ready to leave a long career in dentistry to come support my business and help us grow to where we are today. The team of providers I have at Life Point are as passionate as me about patient-centered care. They show up for our patients and do a fantastic job. (They also take care of me.) We have incredible patients who love to share their healing journey at Life Point with their family and friends. It is an honor to support our community and help them return to the activities in life that may have been taken from them due to injury or illness.

We are known for providing acupuncture treatments that alleviate pain from both acute and chronic orthopedic injuries, chronic inflammatory disorders, enhance fertility, nurture pregnancy, and support women’s health. But that’s not all we do here; we treat everyone—men and women of all ages, including babies and young children—for a wide variety of health concerns. Acupuncture is only one modality of our holistic approach provided in our treatments. Our acupuncturists commonly integrate targeted manual therapy, cupping, moxibustion, ESTIM, and
LED light therapy. We also provide longer treatments that incorporate posture assessment and rehabilitative exercises to bring your body into balance. I can provide on-site IVF transfer acupuncture, which places me at the patients’ side to provide treatment before and after the procedure to increase blood flow and significantly improve transfer outcomes.
