Hi Nyla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Before I started my business, I was in high school, hoping to find a job to earn money and save for my future goals. The thought of becoming an entrepreneur hadn’t crossed my mind. I remember walking into Michaels with my mom. I vividly recall an outing to Michaels with my mom, where we stumbled upon beads for jewelry making. My mom sparked the idea of starting a business and envisioned my success as a business owner. After much contemplation, research, and prayer, I took a leap of faith, drafted a business plan, and began creating beaded bracelets on Etsy. The response was overwhelming – my initial bracelets sold out within days, giving me the confidence to expand my product line to include body-whipped butter and soap bars. I thank my 17-year-old self for embracing the courage to embark on this entrepreneurial journey. Establishing and growing my business has not only nurtured my creativity but also pushed me out of my comfort zone to connect with fellow business owners. Throughout this journey, I’ve remained steadfast in my vision and adaptable to any challenges that have come my way. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the first two years of running my business, everything went smoothly. However, I encountered some challenges in my third year as my sales slowed down. It was tough to promote my business while being a full-time college student. To overcome these obstacles, I devised a backup plan. I secured spots as a vendor at local markets in Huntington Beach, Downtown Anaheim, and Downtown Long Beach. These markets boosted my sales and helped me attract my target audience. Additionally, the introduction of soy candles garnered significant attention and substantially increased sales. By the summer of my third year, I decided to rebrand my business as Vibe and Revive Candles, as soy candles emerged as my best-selling product. Through unwavering perseverance and strategic planning, I successfully navigated through these challenges and uncovered new opportunities for growth.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Throughout my life, I have always been disciplined in the work I do. My passion propels me through challenging moments and reminds me of the “why” – helping people feel great and the power of speaking kind words to themselves and others. My dedication and ambition have enabled me to achieve my goals in leadership and work ethic. When I face failures, I don’t just quit. I have patience in the unknown, which encourages me to make meaningful decisions, do my best, and respond to challenges. I’m always willing to learn something new to create successful opportunities in the future.
