Today we’d like to introduce you to Shivani Parmar.
Hi Shivani, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve always known from a very early age that I enjoyed helping others. There was something indescribably wonderful about the joy of giving – even if it was as simple as helping a peer understand a math problem better. It seemed natural that I would go the medicine route, particularly since it made sense to me to help those who were sick. For a long time, I believed I wanted to be an Endocrinologist to help children diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (an illness that I was diagnosed with myself at 1.5 years old).
Eventually, I realized that STEM was not my passion. Instead, I fell in love with the written word. Through persuasive rhetoric, compelling narratives, and impassioned speeches, individuals have catalyzed movements, challenged oppressive systems, and inspired collective action. From civil rights leaders to visionary artists, those who wield the power of words have shaped history and ignited revolutions. In essence, words, reading, and communication are indispensable facets of the human experience. They empower us to express ourselves, connect with others, and navigate the world with clarity and compassion. By recognizing their importance and nurturing these skills, we can enrich our lives, broaden our perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to the tapestry of human existence.
And so, I became an English professor.
During the pandemic, I realized I wanted to do more somehow. I began volunteering with an organization known as The Good Karma LA and eventually became a Board Member as the official training coordinator. The aim of The Good Karma is dedicated to providing hot meals, clean water, and essential supplies to those experiencing housing insecurity. Through compassion, collaboration, and advocacy, we strive to empower and uplift underserved communities, working towards a future where every person in California has access to the basic necessities needed to thrive.
Finally, I launched my own small business as a wedding coordinator in May 2023! I have always loved organization and efficiency, particularly with handling events. I started working with different planners until I felt comfortable launching my own business. Being a wedding planner is a profoundly rewarding career that combines creativity, organization, and emotional fulfillment. The role offers the unique joy of transforming dreams into reality, meticulously crafting every detail from floral arrangements to venue décor to ensure a magical day. Wedding planners witness the culmination of love and celebration, sharing in the emotional moments and joyous celebrations of couples and their guests. The gratitude received, and the lasting relationships formed with clients make each wedding not just an event but a cherished memory in the making.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anything in life is ever a smooth road. I am constantly making mistakes, learning, and growing to continue to be a better Shivani!
A particular struggle I have is learning to accept help from others along with prioritizing my Type 1 Diabetes care.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Parmar Planning Co. I am dedicated to turning your dream event into a reality. With a background in teaching, I have a great eye for detail and organization. My goal is to make sure that your day is stress-free and that you can enjoy all the moments without having to worry about the details.
I started as an assistant planner for events and slowly made my way to a lead planner to now starting my own company because I love being able to help others create and execute their visions.
Each event is customized to your specific style, vision, and needs. I have always been passionate about creating memories that will last a lifetime and I am here to help you make a wedding day perfect!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I grew up in a small town about 30 miles north of Bakersfield called Delano, CA. It was a small town and there weren’t many opportunities I saw for a young Indian girl. I always dreamed about moving to Southern California – particularly LA. Los Angeles stands as a captivating beacon of culture, innovation, and natural beauty. This sprawling city is not just the heart of the entertainment industry; it’s a melting pot of creativity which is exactly what I wanted more than anything else as a young woman ready to take on the world and find her place within it.
The thing I like least about our city? Traffic.
Probably the same thing as most
