Today we’d like to introduce you to Jinghan Zhou.
Jinghan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jinghan Zhou graduated as an ASLA honored student from the Rhode Island School of Design in year 2022. I had a mixed academic background in both botany and landscape design. This background makes me passionate about continually searching for the meaning of the relationship between the words place, ecology, locomotion, and humanity through the professional practice. During my final academic years, I studied and researched pollinators, specifically commercial honey bees, and reclaimed new strategies that would become powerful tools to provide a healthy, diversified, and resilient system to support the whole ecosphere. This area continually becomes my focuse through my pofficinal practive.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The bigiest challenge for me so far is to spead the knowledge and my research about the pollinators. It’s importand part as a furture landscape design and the nature survival.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
“Today, I’m based in Los Angeles as a landscape architecture designer. Essentially, I specialize in shaping outdoor spaces, blending elements of nature, culture, and functionality to create environments that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and harmonious with their surroundings.
What I love most about being a landscape architect is the opportunity to impact communities and individuals through the spaces we design positively. Whether it’s a bustling urban park where people gather to relax and connect, a corporate campus that inspires creativity and productivity, or a residential garden that becomes a sanctuary for its owners, each project presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities.
Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so –who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help.
I enjoy the collaborative nature of my work, working closely with architects, engineers, planners, and clients to bring a vision to life. An excellent balance of creativity and problem-solving is involved, where we must consider everything from environmental conservation and ecological restoration to accessibility and user experience.
But what excites me the most is the ability to create spaces that not only meet today’s needs but also contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future. Whether it’s integrating green infrastructure to manage stormwater, incorporating native plantings to support local ecosystems, or designing spaces that promote physical and mental well-being, landscape architecture allows me to advocate for both people and the planet.
Ultimately, being a landscape architect is more than just designing spaces; it’s about creating experiences and fostering connections between people and the environment. And that makes it such a rewarding and fulfilling profession for me.”
