Meet Jessica Sacks of Sacks Optical Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Sacks.

Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After 19 years in practice, Dr. Robert Sacks noticed that patients lacked a convenient retailer to find fashionable, high quality and functional frames. After much consideration, Dr. Robert Sacks and his family realized that his belief in one-stop-shop was going to be the new way in the industry. We wanted a part of it when this trend was still in it’s infancy. Dr. Robert Sacks decided that his patients’ well-being and vision were his top priority, so it was with no question that Sacks Optical was born to provide a high degree of customer service for each patient and client just as Dr. Robert Sacks does with his own practice.

Founded in 2009, Sacks Optical is a family owned and operated optical located discretely inside a medical office building in Los Angeles, California. We are recognized as an industry leader for independently owned eyewear lines. We carefully curate and handpick our collections from the world’s most sought after independently owned eyewear lines.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Any new endeavor in life will have its struggles. If it doesn’t it isn’t worth it. I wouldn’t say anything has been a ‘struggle,’ but the road has definitely been windy. We haven’t always taken the road most traveled, but that’s how we like it. We want to be unique and not like anyone else. The everyday challenge is physical space and keeping up with the trends. Traveling to Milan, Italy, Paris, France, and New York has allowed us to keep up with the latest fashion trends in the industry. After transitioning to all independent lines, one obstacle we faced was convincing patients that just because we don’t carry the most common brands doesn’t mean we don’t have excellent, high end, luxury eyewear. We love to have patient feedback of what they love and aspire to see in our optical.

Please tell us about Sacks Optical Boutique.
What sets us apart in the industry is our philosophy. We are a passionate, independent, eyewear optical striving to bring you the best quality, styles, service, and experience. We pride ourselves on unparalleled customer service and industry expertise. To achieve this, we believe in five pillars to attain excellence: Quality, Fashionability, Functionality, Durability, and Customer Satisfaction.

These five pillars help our clients transition from their modern, active, daily lives, to work, to home, and more. Sacks Optical isn’t just an optical shop, it’s a lifestyle. We believe in traveling the globe to curate a collection of the finest, most industrious, independently owned eyewear brands that support our vision of eyewear that is fashionable, functional, and high in quality. Our team of eyewear experts tests each collection and frame individually for quality assurance to guarantee function, design, and fit.

When I took over the Sacks Optical 3 years ago, I took a leap of faith by transitioning our collection to all independent lines. We do not carry any lines owned by Luxottica, Safilo, or Marcolin. This was either going to be a death wish or what separated us in the industry. It has absolutely paid off and our patient satisfaction has been incredible. It is our identity.

We are recognized as an industry leader for independently owned eyewear lines. We carefully curate and handpick our collections from the world’s most sought after independently owned eyewear lines.

Our licensed optician is specifically trained in lens technology, design, and fit, as well as the latest trends in eyewear fashion. We work with top lab facilities to handcraft every pair of lenses to ensure the proper prescription, tint, fit, and lens design. Due to our industry expertise, we have become one of the largest independent retailers of Essilor’s Verilux X-Series design for progressive lenses.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think we would have done anything differently. Everything we did in the past, be it a success or a failure, has given Sacks Optical character. We have the identity that we have now because of how we started.
