Meet Danielle Redfern of Hanmi Acupuncture in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Redfern.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Danielle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been working on starting my practice for the past 4 years. My interest in Acupuncture began when I was 16 years old. I was diagnosed with scoliosis and I was wearing a back brace for 22 hours a day. I could not engage in any sports or activities due to my lack of mobility. I was a candidate for surgery but before doing so, I wanted to see if there were any alternatives. My mother searched for someone that could help me. After researching she found an acupuncturist that said if I gave him one year, he could fix my back. And sure enough, one year later my back was completely straight!

I went back to the orthopedic surgeon who was astounded and could not believe in my results. That is when I knew I wanted to learn this medicine and help other people like me. After graduating school, I wanted to be sure I was providing the highest form of quality care while performing on my future clients. I went to study in Korea at a large acupuncture clinic where I learned how to treat using Korean style acupuncture. Upon returning I started to work at a small wellness center and continued my studies in Australia where I was taught the art of neurological acupuncture by a fantastic acupuncturist in Perth.

As soon as, I returned from my travels, I began looking for a place to start my practice, which is where I am at today.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been an easy path for me. I have had many bumps along the road. I had started a previous business venture and had lost everything due to a deceitful business partner and had to start from nothing. I struggled between 3-4 jobs… and failed a couple at times before I succeeded.

But in the end, everything has paid off and I am very proud of myself and where I am at today.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hanmi Acupuncture story. Tell us more about the business.
I have a small clinic where I practice neurological acupuncture. What sets my business apart from others in the same field around me is that I use primarily distal points to provide instant pain relief.

I have seen and successfully treated: back pain, headaches, tendonitis, knee pain, stomach pain, hormones, bels palsy, stress/anxiety and more. I am most proud of the joy and relief I bring to the people that I treat. Nothing is more rewarding than helping someone become pain-free, especially those that have been in pain for all of their lives,

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I hope to be able to train acupuncturists to treat individuals using neurological acupuncture. My goal is to open up a student clinic where I can share these gems I have discovered during my studies. In turn, creating a wellness center that is affordable for everyone.
