Exploring Life & Business with Kolleen Gregory of Focus Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kolleen Gregory.

Kolleen Gregory

Hi Kolleen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have always wanted to help families, and knew I wanted to be a chiropractor since junior high. I grew up with regular chiropractic care and would schedule appointments to help with everything from my immunity to sprained ankles. Early on, I gained experience with babies working at a Birth Center with Midwives. While working there, I was pregnant with my first baby. Delivery was difficult, and afterwards, I took our daughter to a see a Chiropractor who was a pediatric specialist to help with her traumatic birth and breastfeeding issues. I really admired the gift to help babies from the beginning; to truly change the trajectory of their development for a lifetime is such an honor.

Something as simple as being able to eat, poop, and sleep without discomfort or pain can be a struggle for many babies and parents to navigate.

I started prioritizing a standard of health and optimal function with my own family and friends then and there. My passion and sole focus is helping babies and pediatric care; this is my calling. Which ultimately lead to our family practice in Pasadena, where I have been able to help thousands of babies for the past 20 years alongside my high school sweetheart and husband, Richard Kachanon. Together, we take care of families from pre-conception into motherhood, from birth through childhood development, and even overworked parents!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not! I started working as one of the youngest Chiropractors in the state. I worked as an associate doctor, barely making any money before I began working for myself. Being self-employed, starting from scratch, and building a patient base was all up hill. So much time and effort, long days, and short nights all led to the bigger challenge of starting a family practice with my husband. And working with your significant other presents its own set of challenges. Just a little after a year of opening our own practice, I became pregnant with my second child and experienced the demands of what professional working mothers go through. Returning to work, just another year later, the 2008 recession hit, and we were significantly impacted, but we survived. As our practice grew, we made mistakes, made changes, shifted courses, and then we were presented with another opportunity to evolve. After 10 years we moved our practice and started a new chapter. A whole set of new challenges showed up with that change. Then, after a few more years, Covid hit, and we had to evolve again. Obstacles and Challenges are always in the way of where you want to go. Looking back now makes it so much sweeter being where we are today and serving the community we do. It is honor to help families from the beginning.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What were you like growing up?
I was a really outgoing growing up, always talking and playing in nature, making friends with trees and animals and insects. I am a baby 7, but I really remember enjoying quiet time in nature alone, lying in the grass and searching for four-leaf clovers. I spent a few weeks in Oregon every summer visiting family, hugging trees, rolling in sand dunes, swimming in rivers, creeks, and the Pacific Ocean. I was definitely a little weird but very kind and sometimes a little too honest. In high school, I started team sports, and that was so fun working together for a common goal. I was a skinny little girl with a big heart, a loudmouth with so many questions. I am happy to say that I have matured and grown, but you will still find me with animals, playing in nature, and helping babies.
