Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Cummings.
Christopher, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I fell into the art world. I was going to college in New Orleans, and all of my associates worked in the galleries along Royal Street. I started with mostly janitorial duties, cleaning, changing light bulbs, etc. After being immersed in that scene I absolutely fell in love with the world of art, high profile collectors, famous artists, everything about it was incredibly alluring.
After hurricane Katrina, when I was relocating to southern California. I found myself working the gallery floor as a Fine Art Consultant in a gallery in La Jolla. As anyone who knows me can tell you, I am an absolute chatter box, and with a passion for art this vocation was a natural fit.
During this time, I met the owners of Winn Slavin Fine Art, Daniel Winn and Randy Slavin. I had always heard of their reputation as trail blazers in the fine art community, bring virtually unknown artists to celebrity status with artwork worth millions. Our paths crossed again over the years, and we maintain contact.
As time went on, I moved to Los Angeles to accept the Gallery Director position for a fine art gallery here in Beverly Hills. With the same company eventually calling for me to move to their flagship gallery in Las Vegas. I was very happy, but always wanted more. One day out of the blue I was contacted by Daniel Winn, they were opening their flagship gallery in Beverly Hills… I was sold hook line and sinker, and very quickly moved right back to the golden coast.
As Gallery Director for Winn Slavin Fine Art, I have the opportunity to work with some of the most desirable artists in the world! Artists whose work and vision have been featured in some of the most prominent collector’s collections and museums in the world. It has truly been a blessing.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is always filled with struggles, personal and professional. My ride hasn’t always been as smooth as I would like. Hurricane Katrina was personally very difficult for me. Having to leave the city I had spent so much time, money, and energy to become established. A city I loved so dearly devastated. However, we grow, we rebuild.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Winn Slavin Fine Art – what should we know?
Winn Slavin Fine Art’s internationally known master painters and sculptors are among the premiere museum artists in the industry, creating masterpieces in a variety of media and styles from contemporary surrealism to abstract expressionism, sensually romantic to emotionally charged and sculptural high reliefs to massive heroic sculptural installations.
We continue to dedicate ourselves to maintaining a long-term commitment to nurture, support, and encourage the artists we represent, fine art as a whole, and, of course, our collectors and patrons. We go to great lengths to protect the provenance, integrity, and value of the art created by the master sculptors and master painters of Winn Slavin Fine Art
Success is a function of the many, not just the one, and so we at Winn Slavin Fine Art will continue to work closely and harmoniously with our artists, collectors, staff and other stakeholders towards a future replete with even greater success.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Tenacity. Life is full of surprises, and unless you are willing to get back up and learn from your mistakes, and try again, you will be destining to fail. I would consider that a key to success.
