Today we’d like to introduce you to Sindy Solis.
Hi Sindy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a third-generation photographer and first-generation Make-up artist. My first passion was in the beauty field, but Photography has always run in my blood. It was originally started by my late grandfather, who started his business in El Salvador in the 1970s with a film camera photographing newborns and kids; my father learned at the age of 15 by assisting my grandpa. When my father came to the States, he worked at a photo lab developing black and white film, but it wasn’t until the late 1980s that he decided to pursue his continued love for photography and opened his business specializing in wedding photography. The cycle repeated itself when my father started to teach me the ins and outs of photography, I was only 12 years old I loved tagging along with him in his photography events and learned so much, but as I grew older, I strayed away from photography for a while. After getting married and having my first daughter in 2003, I decided to pursue the beauty industry. I made sure to choose the top makeup artist schools, and I knew Makeup Designory, also known as (MUD) was one of the best schools to attend; I got certified as a makeup artist and jumped in right away working on weddings, editorial, events, fashion shows, and so much more. I love everything about makeup the from the conversations had while sitting in my chair to the reveal moment when my clients see themselves the big smiles and, at times, tears of joy. As I continued this beauty journey, I knew that something was still missing; I just didn’t know what it was. Well, God knew, and in 2011, photography crossed my path again and found its way back to my heart. So many doors were open, and I was able to photograph for a company and then ventured into freelance, adding that as another service to my business. It was clear to me that I didn’t have to choose just one of my passions; I could combine the two forms of art that I love and make it a business. Through my business, I have been able to meet so many people and clients that turn into friends and help make memories for them. That brings my heart joy, and I know that this is what God wanted me to do. It was how it was planned for me. That is how Sindy and Company came to life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Running business as a now mother of three has made the process a lot slower than what I would have wanted, not a lot of people talk about the challenges of being a mom entrepreneur. There are constant interruptions, setbacks, and not to mention, at times, putting things on pause to focus on the kids, and when you do get on go time mode, you can’t help but get the famous “mom guilt.” It is definitely a juggling game. There have been lots of tears and, at times, the feeling of giving up and thoughts that maybe I just can’t be both a mom and a businesswoman. What has got me through this is lots of prayers, giving myself grace, and lots of planning and organization so that the moments I have for my business can be used to their full capacity.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My photography is geared more towards natural light and its lifestyle captured moments that are organic and natural rather than posed. If you aren’t laughing while in one of my sessions we aren’t doing it right, let’s play some music and have some fun, photo sessions don’t have to be a dreadful experience.
My makeup artist looks are meant to enhance natural beauty, not mask it, so I specialize in clean and natural makeup looks. Sadly, the comparison of social media and filters make it almost impossible to feel beautiful in your own skin.
We all have pores, fine lines, smile lines that are normal. I like to speak words of affirmation to those that sit in my chair. Let’s lift each other up and speak life; let’s have some fun and have girls talk while you get your makeup done.
I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown, learning what I have to offer, and how I don’t have to compare to others because we each are different, and each artistic eye is unique. I will always continue to push myself to learn more and more one never graduates from learning.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that a lot of my clients don’t know is that I can sing, I’ve been on and off singing since the age of 5 I started signing at church. I tried the whole wedding singer thing for friends, but let’s just say that wasn’t my cup of tea… Haha. Just reminded me too much of Adam Sandler in the movie, the wedding singer. Clients won’t have to worry they won’t catch me singing while in one of my sessions, promise. Another thing they might not know is that I love to travel. It’s actually something my family and I enjoy doing, and yes, I definitely love taking pictures of all of the places we visit.
