Meet Andi Goud of Signs by Creations Unlimited

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andi Goud.

Andi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been an artist. I decided to become a professional artist when rent needed to be paid and I was tired of getting fired from my other temporary lines of work. I realized early that I needed to work for myself.

My whole working life prior to becoming a professional artist was centered in the hospitality services, I began painting murals for the various bars and restaurants that I worked for and soon I had a pretty good reputation in town as a muralist.

Several businesses that hired me for murals also requested that I added their name on the wall. Why not? I was already out there on a ladder with the paint and brush in hand. I fell more in love with old school traditional hand lettering with each project. Soon I was working for a local sign shop handling all of their hand lettering projects in addition to my own. An opportunity came to me when that sign shop was listed for sale. Someone was crazy enough to take a chance and lend me a bunch of money to buy that sign shop. That was three years ago.

Now, I make signs and paint murals for clients from LA to San Diego, each day I learn something new and every day I’m a little better than I was the day before.

Has it been a smooth road?
HAHA! That’s a hilarious question- nothing in life is smooth sailing and if it is then you’re not challenging yourself enough. And I bet your pretty bored with all of it.

I live for challenges- I eat and breath fear every day and try not to be too impressed with myself for surviving as long as I have.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Signs by Creations Unlimited story. Tell us more about the business.
Creations Unlimited is a quintessential old school sign shop. We specialize in handcrafted and painted signage. Often this crosses over into murals as well. I am most proud of the fact that we are a collection of artists and craftsmen.

Today’s sign industry has become flooded with “pop-up” sign shops. Eager to cut vinyl graphics with little regard to layout or design- and while we do offer many different types of digital printing options and custom cutout vinyls, we take a hearty pride in offering our customers true quality with great design.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I would love to see more of the resurgence of tradition sign painting- I have a number of high end customers who truly value the look and feel of hand lettered signs and murals and are willing to pay the higher costs for such a novelty.
