Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Gomez.
Isaiah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was young, I was very quiet due to my insecurities of being skinny and having crooked teeth, one night my dad came home from work and turned on the movie Scarface, and me being too young to watch the movie, I peeked around the corner to watch, and watching the movie front to back I loved the movement and excitement of the film, and at that moment I knew I wanted to do that. My parents took me and my brothers and moved us to a small town called Anahuac, Texas. I saw it as an opportunity to start fresh and break out my shell, so meeting new people gave me excitement. I had very little friends to start off, but I began to be a class clown and began getting in trouble a lot in elementary, but I was never a bad kid. I just would talk a lot in class to make everyone laugh. I realized that I enjoyed to make people’s emotion change into something positive. Once I began to gain more friends, I started an Instagram account where I would post funny skits every single day, then would come to school the next day, where everyone would talk about them having a great laugh. Once I got into middle school, I still had the problem of my teeth being crooked, so I got bullied and picked on a lot, learning how to fight and stand up for myself. Like, I had a girlfriend, and I couldn’t even keep her because people would say, “Why are you with him” or “You gonna suck on his tooth when you kiss him “ ( I had like two front teeth ). Things like that made her leave me, and it hurt my soul so much that I begged my mom to get me braces that summer, so I had got them. Once I got them, I also started growing out my hair, finding popularity all at the same time, which was really important at the time to me. At that same time, my cousin Courtney Glaude began to get on his directorial grind, making skits on YouTube, and then he made a web series that he wanted me to be a part of, so I said yes in a heartbeat, filming it. I was excited the whole time. After filming and releasing the video, I loved the feeling I got seeing myself on a screen. Once I got back to school, I started to create a buzz around my name, having my hand into everything in my community, created bonds with the people in the community, I was playing all the sports, joined student council, was dating a cheerleader, I was feeling like that dude for real. I got into high school and didn’t stop my mission to become on top of Anahuac, I let my pride fill my head up with things that didn’t matter. I became a hype man for all the pep rallies, continued to play all sport and do everything I could to have my name posted on something. My mind became very clouded, and I completely began to think the world revolved around me and I made a lot of mistakes as any teenager does, but those stories are for another day. I completely crashed out at the end of my junior year, losing my mind. I lost my will to get up, to live, to roll out of bed. I was at my lowest, constantly crying every day wondering what is to become of my life, wondering what is next for Isaiah Gomez. But one day, I had a vision of a bright light that shot me through the clouds with a figure telling me something in a tongue language; it wasn’t even words; it more like a noise a sound that I couldn’t comprehend but I knew it was a message to get up and do something instead of letting life kick me on the ground. My last year of school I stayed to myself for a while and meet a girl that I feel in love with that supported me to my journey of what I want to do. My interest in acting peaked again, and Courtney Glaude connected me with Charnel Brown, who is a famous actress now teaching upcoming actors the ropes of the industry and teaching techniques that most don’t care about. Taking her class has built me a lot of connections and friendships for me, which has lead me to shooting a upcoming TV show with my classmates and getting me an agent to help me get roles and much more upcoming plans that I have always dreamed of and I can’t give enough thanks to God and my family and the people who have helped me get to this point and sticking with me at my hardest times. Now, I am a college student studying business working at Chick-fil-A, and pursuing my dream of acting. There is a lot of details I am missing out, but that will be for my autobiography later in life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not by a long shot, but I didn’t expect it to be a smooth road. My main struggles is just overthinking in my head telling myself everyday “Man you better become something great, all those people don’t believe in you…prove them wrong”. My mental state has been up and down this whole road, but even with that, I try my best to keep my head straight; no lie, there are many nights where I feel like a dark void, but I know that God has me on a path and he is with me in my darkest moments and he will be with me on my Highest moments.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a college student and Lee community college studying business, and I work as an employee at chick-fil-a and have started YouTube channels for the future.
What’s next?
My plans for the future is establishing my name into the mainstream and producing YouTube and social media content for all to enjoy, also to continue my college career also.
