Check Out Daddy Priest’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daddy Priest.

Daddy Priest

Hi Daddy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is a little bit unconventional, but I guess I should start at the beginning. I remember being a kid in a family of singers not being able to sing. I was hushed every time I open my mouth. I tried to teach myself how to play the piano, unsuccessfully, And the many years later, when I was in high school, I had a friend who had a guitar; he didn’t really play it, so I taught myself how to play on his guitar, I really wouldn’t have had to start without Malik Tapia. After a few months, I got my own from a security guard at my high school, and I started to teach myself using YouTube after a couple years of playing teaching myself enrolled to college of southern Nevada as a major cause. I really wanted to learn how to sing and took some guitar classes and piano classes, and, of course, music theory classes. I’m really credit that for where I am today. During the college years, I had the privilege of working with some high-end artists and even singing for a movie and television show. CSN was really great for me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anyone who tells you that the music business is easy as lying to you, the business will turn every friend into an enemy. There’s a lot of obstacles in this business from financing, scheduling, both scheduling group or even scheduling rehearsals. You have to realize when you’re in this you do a lot of managing people, and that’s not always the easiest thing to do, especially when musicians are concerned; we’re kind of like herding cats.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I write and record music and play guitar, bass, drums, piano, and I sing now through a lot of trial and error, most days you can find me somewhere with my Guitar, whether that’s heading to a Studio, a video with me in my backyard playing, or most of the time you’ll catch me out on a stage playing either with my own band, Daddy Priest, Candace Wakefield, my wonderful aunt 5 Time Grammy winner, or the first band I stepped foot in when I got back to LA, Indiana Bradley, who I love the support and chemistry I have with.

What’s next?
2024 is gonna be a blast if you have been paying attention. I just dropped live versions of Save Me and a new song, Silent Scream, out screaming everywhere and coming soon. We have baby a nice jazzy blues track ‘Baby’ and a re-release of ‘Smoke W U’ known as the Funk Files it’s nice and funky is the way it should’ve been done. It’s the way it should’ve been done. It’s the way that it would’ve been done if my issues would block one records didn’t go the way they did. It’s what you would’ve heard. I am happy to say that I have a fantastic drummer, Jaewon Kim, on ‘Smoke W U’ and ‘Baby’ and a great bassist, Joseph Love, on ‘Smoke W U.’ Thanks to them and our Recording Engineer, Sherman York, I know we have a raw emotional sound that you’ll really dig.
