Community Highlights: Meet Liz Clancy of Hooha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Clancy.

Liz Clancy

Hi Liz, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
June 24, 2022. Roe v. Wade is overturned.

I couldn’t take my eyes off of the news. Then, I couldn’t watch. As someone from Louisiana who has had an abortion, this issue hit hard. The unprocessed trauma came flooding in, and the reality of it overcame me like an angry, red swelling wave. Naturally, I channeled my rage into getting the word ‘choice’ tattooed on my arm – I wanted to brand myself before they did.

A mental breakdown at a grocery store sent me reeling into sharing my story publicly for the first time on the internet. I hadn’t even told my family and some of my closest friends – now, everyone knew.

Although confronting the trauma seemed nearly impossible, it snapped me into action, and I knew I needed to do something.

I am OVER women and menstruators being an afterthought. I am PISSED there aren’t easier and more accessible options for period products for 50.5% of the US population.

Enter Hooha – a solution to creating accessibility in period products for menstruators everywhere. Hooha is loud, bold, unapologetic, and passionately poking the patriarchy with the corner of our brightly colored vintage bag. So, listen up all businesses – if you’re not going to provide free period products, at least let the people access them.

In an ideal (pink and fluffy world), Hooha would be available everywhere a menstruator could potentially get their period…which means anywhere. Hooha should be in hotels, boutiques, coffee shops, bodegas, bars, restaurants, gyms, offices…wherever the Cranberry Woman goes!

Fighting the good fight certainly has its challenges, but I have been overwhelmed with support from my incredible friends, family, and community. Like in everything I do, comedy is deeply tied to Hooha because, at this point, if we’re not laughin’, we’re crying.

Bodily autonomy and the power of choice are at the core of Hooha’s values – thus, a portion of all profits go to the National Network of Abortion Funds.

We will not go back.

Xx,

Liz

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is daunting enough, but starting a period product business as a woman in a world post-Roe has proved even harder than I imagined. But I knew what I was getting into. With a background in luxury fashion and retail, I’ve always had a dream to have my own business. While the road is bumpy, I’m enjoying the ride.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Hooha?
Ever get your period unexpectedly & not have a tampon on you?

Hooha aims to put an end to these graphic scenarios by providing seamless & stress-free access to organic period products in hotels, the workplace & wherever people who menstruate go. The Hooha box includes the first curated assortment of period products because we know periods can be unpredictable. Bodily autonomy and the power of choice are at the core of our values, so a portion of all profits will go to the National Network of Abortion Funds.

Any big plans?
One of the main goals of Hooha is to increase accessibility in the hospitality space by partnering with hotels to provide complimentary period products **in** the hotel rooms, as they currently are not! The future of Hooha is bright, and we’re already gaining speed. If you are in hospitality, own a local business, and would like to become a stockist, please reach out!
