Today we’d like to introduce you to Junie Hoang.
Hi Junie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started off in dance when I was 16, but was directionally dyslexic, so I ended up leaving it. Because I still loved the performing arts and didn’t want to give up on it, I turned to acting and have stuck with it to this day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m not sure there’s such a thing as a smooth road in this business. The challenge that I had for most of my career was finding support for what I wanted to do. My biggest obstacle is simply me getting into my own head and struggling to stay positive when there’s so much negativity that surrounds the journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I consider myself a jack-of-all-trades, but not in a bad way. I dabble in all types of media, whether it’s film, tv, commercials, industrials, voiceovers, print, etc., as long as I get to practice my craft. I started off doing independent films, but now am finding myself more in commercial work. I tend to stay very consistent with my routine, so where others would find it mundane, I stay diligent and stick with it. I’m not easily distracted by going out and having fun; in fact, I love staying in more than going out, so that helps me drum up work on my own when it’s just me and my laptop.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Too many to count, but I would say all the childhood memories with my father, grandmother, and aunt are all precious to me, especially now that they’re no longer with us.
